Lucy is a 6yr old Golden Retriever. She is used to a country life with an acre and a half of land but her owners are moving to a much smaller property and, very reluctantly, have to give her up as there is a "no dogs" policy. She has lived with cats and is good with children although she can be a bit timid of other dogs.

Lucy's original owners said,“She loves nothing more than being cuddled, brushed and lots of close up company – anyone who will talk, play, pet her is ideal - she also likes listening to the piano. Although she can be scared when its noisy or unpredictable, and she jumps at indoor bangs and crashes, but loves kids.  Outside, in the garden with balls and games she runs around, cheerfully, not at all reliably trained, she usually steal the objects rather than retrieving. She seems nervous but very interested with new dogs, and needs encouragement when meeting them, although she hasn’t met that many since leaving her home kennels. She came to us aged 18 months from breeders who had 30 plus dogs and I think she may have been the bullied pup of a big litter. With the few dogs she does know, she seems perfectly fine. In fact she followed one inside, with no hesitation when we had given up trying to get her to brave our steep back staircase. She lives with our 2 cats, although they’d deny it and ignore her attempts to make friends. She eats anything. Isn’t greedy and takes what’s on offer - usually a supermarket brand of mixer, biscuits and meat and any appropriate home left-overs. She likes all breakfast cereals, but that might just be because she is under the kitchen table first thing, after being alone all night, as soon as we get up. She’s only once been in kennels when we went abroad but stayed outside in the pen for the week, seemingly scared of being indoors, probably because she was next to a gang of small but noisy terriers. There are just the 3 of us at home, my daughter, partner and I. We’ll all miss her and she seems equally fond of all of us, even David, who regularly says he doesn’t like dogs. Good news is that she will be very adaptable since she just loves being with people, and would be as content lying at someone’s feet in front of the TV as in a home with a giant play area. In short, she’s a very good illustration of the term ‘pet’ as everyone’s ‘best friend’.  We also think she’s really beautiful – and has a red-golden coat."

Lucy has now gone to her forever home.

LUCY IN HER FOREVER HOME

Hi, my name is Lucy. I’m a golden retriever and everyone says I’m lovely! I’ve come to live with my new Mummy in Wendover where there is a huge garden in which to play ball and roll about on the grass. It’s nice and cosy indoors because I have a choice of proper doggy bed or a large squashy sofa. Guess which is my favourite!



My best doggy pals are Jessie, a Corgi and Rachel and Scottar both collies and sometimes their owners bring them for walks with us which is great fun. I am still on a long lead at the moment on walks because I don’t want to get lost as I don’t know the area. I’ve only been here one week but already my Mummy and me love each other to bits!
