She took no notice of the chickens when Terry took her into the garden and they walked past the chicken run - the chickens were very evident but Magic just glanced at them and carried on walking. The cat hissed at her last evening when she walked near her, but Magic didn't notice!
 MAGIC
Magic is a 6-7yr old Lab. She is microchipped, fully vaccinated, wormed and was spayed at approximately 1 yr old and is good with children, dogs and cats. Being a Lab, needless to say, she loves her food but has never shown any signs of food aggression. She was surrendered, with a younger dog, to SEDR in Kent as her elderly female owner was in hospital and, whilst in hospital, her partner died at home. They kept the 2 dogs for a few weeks in the hope that they could be returned to their original owner but she decided to sign them over as, sadly, her health meant she could no longer care for them properly. Images of Magic can be seen at http://www.sedogrescue.co.uk/?46.-magic,119 Magic lived with a cat and also a Lab and a Dalmatian at her SEDR fosterer's house before she went to her new home. She adored all the children she came in contact with. She was used to being left 4 hours per day at the fosterer's house. After the initial excitement of going for a walk, she walked well on a lead and was also found to be good off lead. She went to Cornwall at the end of November 2009 but her elderly, single lady owner was unable to cope with her so, in Magic's best interest, it was decided to try to fine her a more active home and IRR were able to help by providing an experienced fosterer in the right area. MAGIC AT MARCELLES Magic is now in foster with Marcelle and family in Plymouth. Marcelle says she looks in very good condition and is food orientated but no more than any other Lab. This should actually help with her training. She has already been out for a nice walk and pulled just a little bit on the lead at first but, no doubt, just from pure excitement as she soon started to walk quite nicely. She has met Marcelle's cats and dogs and has been brilliant. She is also excellent with the children (her youngest being 10yrs old) but Marcelle feels she would be better with older rather than younger children because she may try to take food from very young children if they were to wave it around in front of her.
Unfortunately due to a family bereavement, Magic has had to move to another fosterer so she is now with Belinda and Terry in Somerset. MAGIC AT BELINDA AND TERRY'S Here are some pics of Magic with the girls - very difficult to get them all together, I am afraid. They all get on really well though Magic is very respectful of the resident foursome, even allowing Stella - and when she can, Abigail - to sleep in her bed. She joined me on the sofa again last evening, while we were watching tv.
Magic watches us eat but doesn't pester us (our dogs don't come near the table at meal times) and she barks when the phone rings and when the doorbell rings. She also keeps seeing her reflection in the glass in the conservatory which causes a bark or two but she soon stops and it isn't as frequent as it was. She is very friendly and her tail wags constantly. She has shown absolutely no food aggression. She loves her food and is not gulping it down quite as fast as she did when she first came.
She sleeps in her crate at night and hasn't made a murmur. She will make a great companion, has a lovely temperament and is full of enthusiasm. IN HER NEW HOME Magic is now living happily in Worcestershire with Lin & Phil and their cat. Despite being extensively cat tested, there were a few teething troubles but all seems to be much more harmonious now. FIRST REPORT FROM HER FOREVER HOME Lin said. "Pleased to say Mag, as we call her (Magic without the ic), is doing very well and we love her to bits. A shaky start with Harry, our cat, even though she had lived with other cats and was good with them, she did chase & bark at him but that's much better now & Harry is getting braver. Mag loves everybody & 2 weeks ago met our 2 young grandsons, 6 & 7 - they were brilliant together. Her favourite thing is food of course, eats anything & everything.
She loves her walks & we are lucky enough to have lovely countryside around us so she can run off leash. Again she's very good, never going far & soon comes running back with a big smile on her face. She likes to meet other dogs but it's just a quick hello then back to her walk, which she has 3 times a day, so it's doing us good as well as her.
It's fair to say she has changed our life & we could not imagine being without her, she gives us many laughs with her quirky antics." UPDATE FROM LIN 27/05/2010 Lin says " Mag is doing well. We have found out what a big softie she is, even more than we thought she was. I was walking in the fields & Mag decided to go in the long grass. She must have disturbed a pheasant that came up clucking and flew off. She ran back to me, ears flat, with a very worried look on her face. Mag went into the garden when we got home and a wood pigeon was on the bird-table, it flew off making quite a noise with its wings and, once again, it was ears flat and run straight to mum! Good job she was never tried as a gun dog, bless her.
I'm glad to say things have settled down with the cat, though Mag will bark & chase occasionally but Harry hisses at her & she backs off, mostly. She has made lots of doggy friends, plus humans and just loves to be with you. We wouldn't be without her. Our grandsons love her to bits. It's just a shame they live in Berkshire but they see her as often as possible.
As you will see from the grow-bag, she still has a mischievous side."
