ZENA

EXTREMELY SAD NEWS

On the evening of 25.6.2010  Lorna and Rachel had to say goodbye to their very beautiful Zena. She became listless and refused food a couple of days before. The vet was concerned that perhaps she had a spread of the cancer that made her so poorly 18 months ago and after a very short course of medication which had no effect, she was x-rayed. There was a huge growth pushing down on her intestines and her oesophagus was very enlarged so no food was going into her stomach. This had been making her cough and vomit. The only heartbreaking but brave and kind option was for her to be allowed to go before she got very poorly indeed.

Zena was a sprightly lady who was an 11 year old cuddle monster when she came to us with Ben, a lovely old boy of 12 years who has since, sadly, passed over to Rainbow Bridge. They were unwanted by other family members after their beloved owner died. This is a very common problem and one reason why older dogs often end up in our care. Fortunately, they found a really wonderful, very loving, forever home with Lorna and Rachel. Zena was happy to be a sponsor dog in order to help us rescue other dogs who have lost their very special owners and become a nuisance to, or burden on, other people in the family too.
