April

(Was Kerina)

Captivating Kerina is a Golden Retriever, about 5yrs old but not yet neutered.

APRIL HAS A WONDERFUL NEW HOME (MAY 2015)

Billy’s nephew, Peter, says “April is improving every day and has been wonderful since she arrived. Many thanks for this beautiful girl”.

David, her fosterer tells us ” April was with us for 4 weeks and it was very sad to see her go last night but she is now in Stockton on Tees with her forever dad, Billy, and his lovely 8 year male Goldie, who is very calm and friendly. She will be very happy there as Billy is a lovely guy who adores his Goldies.

Since she has been here, she has put on weight and her coat and health have improved a million times. She became a lot more confident and she has been wagging her tail and enjoying life, which was alien to her for so long.

Alison and I were sorry to see her go but we know that her new home with TJ, the Goldie will be a
happy place for her.

HISTORY

Her first owner had her tied up all day. The second owner rescued her and has had her for two years. He relinquished her to Irish Retriever Rescue as she was getting out and he was afraid she would get into pup again. She had, apparently, only recently had a litter of puppies so her teats are still swollen. This will take a while to revert back to normal.

Kathryn, our Irish Co-ordinator, assured the owner that she would be well looked after and that she would get a safe, loving home where she would be treasured and loved forever.

PERSONALITY
This little lassie has the gentlest of natures. When Kerina’s grooming was finally finished, Roxie (GR) and Milo (Lab) decided to take on the important role of nurses and decided it was their job to cheer her up a bit.

Milo and Roxie went to comfort Kerina immediately, knowing she was scared. Roxie wagged her tail and Milo kissed her. It was as though they were telling her that she need not worry that she was in a safe place and after a few minutes she started to wag her tail.

SOCIAL LEARNING

Travel: She travelled very well in the car

Housetraining: She is fully housetrained.

Grooming: She was groomed and was not used to the hairdryer so she was very frightened but, with patience and lots of kisses, and the reassurance of Milo and Roxie, she realized that she would be all right.

Dogs: and Cats: Kerina is great with both dogs and cats.

KERINA’S DREAM HOME

She would be best suited to a home with another dog or cat for company as she is timid, possibly with a retired couple who would have a lot of time for her and who would give her all the love she deserves. The perfect home for this quiet, gentle girl is a must.
