BARNEY’S HISTORY

Barney was surrendered by his owner as the landlord wouldn’t allow dogs.

FOSTERER’S INITIAL REPORT – UK: MARCH 2012

Barney is being fostered in Crewe, Cheshire. His fosterer says: Barney is a very handsome, affectionate 9/10 month old pup. When he first arrived he was very timid and quiet. Having now found his feet he is playful and energetic. He already knows some basic commands and will sit. He pulls on a lead, he doesn’t like head collars but copes well on a walkezee harness. Barney is still at the chewing stage and will need lots of chew toys and a non-chew bed. Barney has been good with my dogs although he doesn’t always get the message when play time is over. Barney sleeps at night in the utility room and is quiet until the morning when he hears people getting up. He has met our cat and was a little over enthusiastic but showed no malice. Barney would suit a home where he’ll have lots of walks and human company as he really is a cuddle monster. Although a pup he is already a big dog, he is probably a bit too bouncy for young children as he can jump up. All in all Barney is a typical young dog who is full of enthusiasm and who could do with a bit more training, time and patience.

FOSTERER’S 2ND REPORT – UK: MARCH 2012

Barney continues to do well. He has a lovely nature and is very affectionate. He is lively at times but is learning not to be as bouncy near the children and seems a little calmer in general; though given the opportunity he will chase the cat. He continues to improve on his harness and loves going for his walks. Barney can be timid at times and if he isn’t quite sure he sometimes flops on the floor. Despite this he has an overall happy go lucky attitude to life. He would make a wonderful addition to any home looking for a young retriever but care and supervision would still be essential near young children as he can get a little over-excited.

APRIL 2012: BARNEY HAS GONE TO HIS FOREVER HOME

APRIL 2012: REPORT FROM HIS FOREVER HOME

I thought you’d like an update on Barney since Sunday!! He is an absolute joy and is settling in very well!

He is gradually getting used to his crate at night, and after two small whimpers on Sunday night, he slept without a murmur! We have totally spoilt him with toys and it took him precisely 5 minutes to completely destroy a ball yesterday morning! The stuffed cow/ragger was disembowelled and beheaded soon after arriving home here and I am still picking up pieces of white ‘intestines’ !!! He parades around the house with his blanket and toys hanging from his mouth and his tail is now starting to wag more frequently!

He is still nervous if anyone moves too quickly or hears a loud, unexpected, noise, but he is gradually getting more used to his surroundings. He is like a little shadow whilst I’m around, but the difference in him over the last few days is wonderful to see.

I have booked him into the vets at the end of the week for a check up and inoculations, if necessary, and he starts puppy training classes next month! That should be fun!

I am just looking forward to the weather clearing and spending some time in the garden with him!

Thank you so much for rescuing Barney and for trusting us with him.

We ALL adore him and we know he will continue to have a happy life for many years to come.
