A DREAM HOME FOR BREE

Lady has a new home and a wonderful new name of Bree. She has settled in well and loves her new active life. It was, definitely, the right decision to separate our lively lady from plodding Polo.

HISTORY

Lady is a 5yr old spayed female Pointer who came into care with Polo, a 6yr old castrated male Golden Retriever. They both came together into IRR care where they received vet checks and the necessary inoculations to obtain their pet Passports in order to come to the UK.

On arrival, they went into foster together with Amber & Alex.

After a couple of weeks, Amber told us “Both dogs are doing great but Polo and Lady take life at very different speeds.

Polo is a sedate gentleman, I am yet to see him run! If I didn’t know from the passports, I would have put Polo as older than his 6 years. His behaviour is much older and more sedate than would be expected and he definitely seems older than my 7 year olds. He is adorable and he does like to be with you all the time. He will follow you from room to room, preferring to be as close as possible to you.

Lady, on the other hand. is a wizz and, I think, as her fitness and strength build she will become even more active. This probably means Lady will require longer walks than Polo and a much more active life. She will require a family who are committed to ongoing training and, preferably, who understand HPR’s.

Polo is the more well mannered of the pair. As time has gone on,  we have seen the even more loving side of Polo. He is a gem.  He is not too keen to learn new things but Lady will learn quickly if she is given the right incentive.

Lady loves playing with our Large Munsterlander so, if a new home has an existing dog she may latch on to them rather than Polo. He doesn’t seem too fussed about that, so long as he can have cuddles with you!

For these reasons, it was decided it would be beneficial to the dogs to rehome them separately.

The crate has proved really useful and Lady will happily trot in if told ‘bed time’. She is a very busy dog but does know how to relax. She is exceptionally good with other dogs and likes to appease them. She will happily fit into a home with other dogs but I would not like to see her in a home with an exceptionally dominant dog who will make her feel worried.

LADY’S FOSTER ASSESSMENTS

Lady is a very energetic inquisitive dog, she’s very food motivated which will make training easy, she loves to be with you all the time and enjoys the company of other dogs. She is however a climber and can easily scale our extra tall baby gates and get on to the worktop!

She will also remove anything she can from a worktop looking for food. This, however, is being managed by using a crate which she is quite happy to chill in. She is going to be a lot of fun but will, definitely, need an active home.

PERSONALITY: Lady is a fun little dog who needs some direction and to have her confidence built up. She is very alert and inquisitive, quite playful and happy  but she can also be calm and laid back when necessary.

As her fitness increases, she is likely to require a lot of excercise as I think her energy levels will also rise.

With some regular food, direction and love she’ll settle to be a really great dog.

She, like Polo, needs food manners to be worked on and any new home would need to be aware that she is a bit of an acrobat! Anything is fair game to be taken and eaten!  This is not furniture or anything of value but she does likes to pinch things!

HEALTH: Lady was shockingly thin, however, she has already put on over two inches around her waist. And we are sure, with some weight on, she will be wonderfully healthy.

Her tail has healed beautifully and the fur is now growing back on her tail.

SOCIAL LEARNING

Over time, I believe Lady will learn to be a really well mannered dog. She’s great with people and other dogs and I think could excel at an active dog sport to use some of that energy, and keep her brain busy and her out of mischief!

TRAVEL:  Lady is happy and content travelling in a vehicle

HOUSETRAINING:   She is housetrained now

BASIC TRAINING:   Lady has received almost no basic training but is bright and quick to learn

LEADWALKING: She walks `loose lead’ with a slip lead

RESOURCE GUARDING:  Despite her obsession with food, Lady shows no evidence of resource guarding

SEPARATION ANXIETY: She can be slightly anxious when left

ADULTS:   Lady is very friendly

CHILDREN:  She is very friendly

DOGS:    Lady is quite submissive with other dogs but this doesn’t hold her back with trying to make friends and she is then very friendly. She adores a game of tug with a doggy friend.

CATS:  Like Polo, she seems to be ok with cats.
