Bunty McAvoy

Gone to Rainbow Bridge

REST PEACEFULLY BEAUTIFUL BUNTY (16.12.2019)

After remaining remarkably well thanks to her long term medication and Terry’s continued loving care, on Sunday evening, Bunty could hardly stand to eat her evening meal. On Monday morning, she just lay in the hall and couldn’t get up. She also refused her breakfast which wasn’t Bunty as she really, really loved her food.

The vet arrived mid morning and confirmed Terry’s worst fears for the girl he had come to adore. It was her time so Bunty was given sleep. With Connie and Vinnie nearby and Terry stroking her gently, Bunty slipped peacefully away and embarked on her final journey.

For sure, she will now be reunited with her beloved Mum, Belinda, and her sisters Cassie and Abi who have all also crossed Rainbow Bridge this year.

BECOMING BUNTY (October 2017)

Having had five very happy years with Jean and Don, things needed to change for Abbie. Her beloved Dad had passed away and her adored Mum needed to be cared for herself.

Initially, Abbie went to live with a friend but she proved to be a bit bossy for the much smaller resident dog so plan B was put into operation. Over the years, both Pauline and Belinda had had regular telephone chats with Jean and she was promised, if anything untoward happened to her and Don, then one of them would look after Abbie.

So it was that Abbie was transported by Jean’s daughter from Essex all the way down to Somerset where she was welcomed into the McAvoy family. Jean’s daughter had been keen to meet them and, of course, was not disappointed. Abbie’s behaviour was exemplary.

There was only one problem and that was that the pack already had an Abbie in it and so Big Abbie (or big A) very soon became Bunty, a name that she took to like a duck to water and especially so if a treat happened to be on the end of it.

NO LONGER THE NEW KID ON THE BLOCK (July 2018)

Things jogged along nicely and Bunty fitted in well. She was a bit bossy with strange dogs when she was out but that was just Bunty. She did have a few medical problems that needed sorting but Belinda and Terry’s vet put her on the appropriate medication and all was well.

She remained the new girl in the family until July 2018 when Ella joined the gang. She was much younger than all the rest and she was fit and healthy too. Her problem was simply that her Mum (Belinda’s sister) had become very poorly and could no longer care for her. It was intended to just be a temporary measure but it soon became apparent there was no way that Ella could go back home. That having been said, she wasn’t at all bothered as, for sure, she felt in her mind and heart she was home.

Ella had been well loved since puppyhood so she didn’t come with the usual problems that Belinda and Terry were used to so, in many ways, she was easy but, being so much younger than the rest, she was quickly found to be full of boundless energy. That having been said, she still fitted perfectly into the family.

Eight months on, Belinda said Ella was now much calmer than she had been. Being with the others, of course, had helped her immensely. She is never left on her own for a moment, not that she has ever been in any way destructive and, like all Belinda and Terry’s dogs, she is fed well, every need is taken care of and she is loved to bits.

ABBIE (was HONEY)

HISTORY

Abbie was approximately 8 years old in 2012. She was surrendered to IRR due to a change in family circumstances.

FOSTERER’S INITIAL REPORT (Ireland: July 2012)

Abbie walks well on the lead, though pulls at the start as she is eager to get going but then settles.

I took her to the stables and she was fine around children, horses and adults. She was off the lead at all times in the stables and came immediately when called. She does shy when meeting new people but quickly comes round.

I walked her in fields beside my house off lead and she comes to her name / stops when you ask her to and waits until you catch up. She tried to chase a cat in the garden, so not sure how cat friendly she would be.

Overall she is a beautiful, friendly, loving dog. She was a pleasure to have and be around. Gentle natured; well behaved and loves attention.

REPORT FROM ABBIE’S FOREVER HOME (JULY 2012)

Abbie is a very affectionate little girl and full of energy.

After her arrival here she ran round investigating every room again and again. Her tail never stopped wagging. Not showing any signs of being timid. She is quite responsive to commands, i.e. ’Not that way’ – she will turn round and come back. She will come when called so with time may be able to run loose along the fields. We will have to see. She attempted to go up the stairs but stopped on being told ‘no’. This morning she came upstairs when Don and I were there, had a good sniff round and then went down again to lie in the hall. Quite amazing we did not expect her to be quite so good. However, she is a little less co-operative about getting off the sofa which can be a bit awkward sometimes as I need to lay on there occasionally with the back. Today she jumped on and I left her and sat beside her, or that was the idea, but she decided that I should have the same treatment as her monkey toy we have for her. I am not sure how long monkey will be with us. Abbie is not going to love him, more like dismember him. Quite a little character.

Abbie’s remedy for keeping cool is lying down on the stone floor in the kitchen, spreading her hind legs out behind her so that her undercarriage is flat on the cold floor.

Don and I wish to thank you all so much for your support when we lost Oliver, it meant a great deal and helped so much and still does and for your help in finding Honey for us. We are so lucky to have her and hope she will be happy here for as long as she needs. She will be much loved.

You are a wonderful Rescue organization and if there is anything I could do to help at any time do please ask.
