Cassie Hadley

EARLY DAYS

In 2010, Cassie was a Golden Retriever who was approximately 5 years old, neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. She was fostered by Jane and her family.

FIRST REPORT

Cassie arrived a few days ago from Ireland where she was found as a stray and was very matted and smelt awful. She has since been to the groomers and now looks and smells much better.

The groomer took Cassie to collect her children from school and apparently she adored the children and enjoyed all the fuss and attention giving the lots of slobbery kisses!! She met my young nieces age 2 and 5 yrs at the weekend and was very gentle with them.

She is quite slim and appears to be house trained and walks well on a lead. Shes not eating much but will eat chicken – but not just any chicken. M&S chicken and only out of your hand at that !!!!!!!!!!!

Cassie appears to be a very gentle girl and rather timid but loves plenty of fuss and her tail is continually wagging. She is ok with our own dogs Tess and Harvey to the point she is not interested in them at all at the moment. She has not been phased by our cats and walks through our chicken pen and doesn’t seem to bother.

She is slowly starting to come out of her shell and finding her feet and her appetite is improving daily.

UPDATE 4.4.10

Cassie has now gone to her new home today with my sister-in-law Rose, hubby Phil and nieces Leoni & Bonnie. Here she is,all dressed up for Easter by the girls, she is so laid back !!!

CASSIE IN HER FOREVER HOME

Ros said: “I was apprehensive about having another dog because of having 2 young children. I’d looked at different rescue sites and asked around trying to find a family dog. As soon as I saw Cassie I loved her. Matted fur, incredibly smelly and very sad looking. A week later she was mine!

She now has a posh double barrelled name – Cassie Puss Puss, as Leoni (5) kept Cassie but Bonnie,(2) for whatever reason, called her Puss Puss.

She is perfect – unbelievable how lucky I’ve been. She seems like she’s been in the family for ever. Good with the girls, nothing chewed, no mess in the house, seldom barks and likes lots of fuss. From time to time she looks sad so we give her extra fuss so she knows she is here to stay.

Cassie Puss Puss really comes alive during walk time. She runs off as soon as she’s off the lead, and doesn’t rush back when called, preferring to come back when it suits her. However, even when she goes out of sight, she never goes too far and will check to see where we are. She just likes to explore and chase squirrels, cats etc.

She is slowly getting used to not being allowed to chase our cat Tinribs and they are beginning to tolerate each other!

With the extra walks and her eating the girl’s leftovers she is doing wonders for my fitness regime!”

UPDATE 12 JULY 2011

Rose writes this one-year update on Cassie Puss Puss. “Well, I did intend to write something after we’d had her for a year, which was back in April. However, she is such a part of the family that the year has flown by and it feels like we’ve had her forever.

Having two young children I thought carefully before having a rescue dog. Cassie has adapted to our chaotic family life really well, keeping out of squabbles and allowing herself to be used as a pillow, a dress up doll and somewhere to put unwanted stickers!

(We took her canoeing. I was worried she wouldn’t sit still in the boat, but she did brilliantly. She loved the water and all the fuss from people when we landed.

The only annoying thing about Cass is that she’s a definite scrounger. Anyone having a picnic is a target for her to sniff around. Any food dropped on the floor is also fair game as far as she is concerned. She even pinched a slice of pizza from a small boy during our sponsored toddle walk!

She loves waiting for us at school, and especially the fuss she gets from other children.

She still chases squirrels and other people’s cats; our cat Tinribs has her well trained and uses her to keep tom cats out of the garden. They even share the same bed – unless Tinribs wants it all to herself!

Cassie Puss Puss is a great ambassador for IRR as everyone comments on how well she walks with the pram and how friendly she is.

We love her to bits, and are so glad she’s ours.”
