Claude Thomson

Gone to Rainbow Bridge

Sad News 28 August 2021

Claude’s parents said. “Such sad news to inform you that we lost our beloved Claude after a brief illness.

We wanted to thank IRR for bringing him into our lives, he gave us so much pleasure and had the most gentle temperament. We are devastated that our beautiful boy has gone and once again our house is empty. We know time will help to heal the pain we are feeling now and we will be left with wonderful memories.”

History

Age: 5 and a half years

Sex: Male, neutered

Claude has been surrendered to IRR by his family who were unable to look after him.

Personality:
Claude is a gorgeous boy with a great temperament. On arrival into our care his coat was quite matted, but he calmly accepted being bathed and trimmed.

Over the coming days we expect to see more of his personality shine through
as he settles in a foster home.

Claude’s Dream Home:
We believe Claude will make an excellent family dog, perhaps with older children.

Behaviour with other animals:
Claude has lived with other dogs and is fine with cats too

Fostered in: Holbeach

Update from Claude’s Forever Home: 18 September 2013

Debbie sent us this update on the rather gorgeous Claude.

“We brought him home last Friday and, already, he is settling in very well. Claude is very loving and happily follows us around the house and garden and has been lovely when family have visited. He is extremely calm and gentle and has obviously received affection in the past.

We soon learned not to leave any food on the worktops after Claude helped himself to 2 steaks that were ready to go into the oven for Monday’s tea – this happened about 20 minutes after he had eaten his own dinner!

He is very good out walking on the lead although he is desperate to play with other dogs he meets. However, until we feel confident letting him off his lead, he will have to wait especially as he is also very excited by cats and rabbits that he has spotted and we think, given the opportunity, he would give chase.

Although he is not really responding to his name, we think it will only be a matter of time and gentle perseverance before he becomes more responsive. We could not have asked for a better dog and he has certainly helped to fill a big loss in our lives.

Thanks again to IRR and especially to Mike for fostering him. Please keep up the good work!”

UPDATE (May 2014) 8 MONTHS ON

Debbie tells us she and Paul have now had him for nearly 8 months and he certainly is a fine boy. He has settled into a routine with them and loves going for walks and has fun chasing squirrels and rabbits even though they are too quick and always outwit him. He still pulls a bit on the lead and has run off and got himself lost in the woods a couple of times but, luckily, only for a few minutes. They have learned to stay in the same position, continuously calling him, until he comes back, out of breath, and finds them.

They still have to keep all food out of his reach when they are not around. His most recent escapade being eating a whole loaf of bread that was on the side waiting to be warmed in the oven. Debbie says “I don’t know why I left it unattended. I must have got busy doing something else but he’s not one to miss an opportunity! We are trying to be careful, though, as we don’t want him putting on excess weight.

Claude is definitely a man’s dog still and always seems to go to Paul. However, I have learned to accept this and, hopefully, he will continue to come round and share his affections equally with both of us!”
