Gone to Rainbow Bridge

Sad News – October 2020

Denis’ dad, Bob, writes, “It is with great sadness that we have to announce that our wonderful dog Denis passed over the Rainbow Bridge in October.

He had suffered with dementia for a couple of years and it was gradually growing worse. Towards the end, he often didn’t know where he was, his walking became difficult and he even went off his food. It was really hard to see him like this and we just couldn’t let him suffer.

We collected Denis from his foster carer in February 2014 and brought him back to Leicestershire and like Morgan, our previous IRR dog, he settled in straight away.

He was a loyal and loving companion and over the years we had many adventures together. He was a fantastic family dog and he loved everyone, whether human or animal (maybe not so much cats & squirrels); he was just really laid back and enjoyed life.

During the first lockdown from March 2020, we began walking closer to home, just outside our village, where we met lots of the villagers doing the same. Due to Denis’s friendliness, loving nature and good looks, people stopped to fuss him, give him treats and talk to us too. As one of his many admirers remarked he became “quite a celebrity” in the village and walks took longer and longer.

Denis was a fantastic companion and he is missed every day, but we know he has gone to a better place.

RIP Denis. You deserve it.”

History

Denis (aged 7) was surrendered to IRR because his family moved into an apartment and they didn’t have room for him any more.

Personality
Dashing Denis is a lovely boy with great manners, house trained, good on the lead and in the car.
Not food nor toy possessive.

Denis’ dream home
Denis would really enjoy the quiet life where he’s taken on regular walks and is a part of family life. He can be a bit “grumbly” in situations where he is unsure of himself, so he would prefer not to be with younger children.

Behaviour with other animals: Unknown
