Fosterers

Hi, we’re Di and Rob and we live in West Essex with our two old girls, Bella and Josie. We also have a transient population of elderly foster dogs.

We’ve been involved with local dog rescue for many years and have always had a house full of rescue dogs. However, the Golden Retriever bug didn’t bite us till 2005 when a chance visit to the local RSPCA kennels changed things forever. In the murky depths of those kennels sat a pair of old GRs who had been there for 3 months – and we were hooked.

Thus, Perry and Sandy exploded into our lives. We were devastated when Perry only lived a year. Sandy pined and so did we so the gorgeous Bella arrived on the scene. Not long afterwards, Sandy also succumbed to his constant ill health and the house seemed so empty. It was then that we found IRR. We watched the website daily, read all the stories and yearned for another GR. She came in the shape of the adorable Cassie but sadly, her life with us was brief. As we had both retired by then, we applied to IRR to become fosterers and were fortunate enough to be accepted. However, we quickly joined the illustrious ranks of failed IRR fosterers when Josie arrived on the scene. Pauline predicted that Josie would stay with us and even before that little face looked out at us from the transporter’s car, we knew she was ours.

We would love to do more to help IRR but not much seems to happen in this area – but we’re ready and willing should the need arise. We are serious fans and will foster, homecheck or transport. We are also both involved with the Oldies Club – as well as fostering for them. Di is a web writer and Rob is on the rehoming team.

It is so good to have a rescue like IRR to liaise with. We never cease to be amazed at the instant and effective response to a GR in need – IRR, you’re wonderful
and if we can help in even the smallest way, just ask!
