Enzo Walkem-Smith

Gone to Rainbow Bridge

Sad News 31 July 2022

Enzo’s mum said, “Our Enzo got his wings last night. He had a massive cancer on his spleen and was very unwell.

My husband and my two sons were there as I held him at the pet hospital till the end.

We were so blessed – he was turning 12 in November. He was the best dog ever.

We are so grateful to have him as part of our family since 2011. He loved his life and especially birthdays, Christmas, fetch and cake.

Thank you to IRR.”

History

Enzo is a loveable 6 month old neutered Golden Retriever cross. He was fostered by Simon and his family in the West Midlands.

INITIAL REPORT

Simon said: “When we first met Enzo we were quite surprised as he was unusually quiet for a puppy. However, this has changed over the past week as he has become accustomed to his new surroundings. He is now a typical puppy, full of play, mischief and into everything. As such, we have made the cardinal sin and allowed him to sleep in our bedroom in order to avoid being greeted by destruction first thing in the morning. Admittedly, it’s all harmless and no real damage has been done…. except for chewed up paper, cardboard and the death of a few balls. It’s probably due in part to boredom and to him teething, so I would expect this behaviour to stop once he’s finished teething.

He’s been brilliant with our three children and we have had no issues whatsoever. The only thing we are doing is keeping a close watch on our youngest, Thomas (4 years old) when Enzo is having his mad half hour in the garden just to make sure he doesn’t accidentally get knocked over. Chris and Emily have had a great time playing fetch with Enzo and are really quite pleased with this behaviour. He’s one of the few we’ve fostered that actually retrieves!!

Enzo is very social around other dogs and we have had absolutely no problems with any dog he’s met. He gets on very well with our three dogs and plays with all of them, the exception being Bonnie our seven year old GR who thinks that sort of thing is beneath her lol. If the others don’t want to play then he will start to bark in an effort to get their attention.

When I take all the dogs for a walk he’s a bit unruly on the lead but if I take him out on his own then he is superb and no trouble. His recall is excellent and he immediately responds when you call his name.

He’s a very inquisitive dog, always alert and ready to investigate a new sight or sound. He absolutely adores being the centre of attention and has decided he likes being a lap dog. He will frequently jump on my lap whilst I’m sat watching the telly or jump up on the sofa and snuggle up to Julie.

All in all Enzo is a lovely affectionate dog and very well behaved considering he’s still a puppy. He’d be well suited to a family home and would make a great companion for any child.

ENZO GOES TO HIS FOREVER HOME 7 MAY

Enzo has left us today to start his new life with Graham and Bobbie and their two sons in Kent, we wish them every success. We shall certainly miss having Enzo around and it’s surprised me how much I will miss our little tearaway…lol

We know that Enzo has gone to a wonderful new home and that he will bring them all a great deal of joy and laughter especially with his antics. We hope that Bobbie keeps in touch and send us regular photo’s of our little speed merchant.”
