Gone to Rainbow Bridge

FERGUS

3.6.2004 – 1.6.2018

A sobbing Moe typed “We lost our beautiful Fergus on June 1st. His back legs had gone and he had no life. He couldn’t go out and for three months we were up at least three times a night for him. It was awful. The only consolation is that he now has Murphy with him and they are running together.

It doesn’t get any easier. We are heartbroken and we miss him so much.

Fergus was born on 3rd June 2004 and we got him a year later from his breeder in Wales. He was surplus to requirements as he didn’t come up to “show ring standard”;. We thought “what a lot of tosh” but our gain was their loss.

Fergus and Murphy were inseparable and it was dreadful for him when we lost poor Murph. In time, that is why we got our little Dolly and she followed him everywhere. They soon became best of buddies.

Fergus was so good with everybody but he was also a very good house dog. He loved going on the beach and he used to watch the TV. He would go mad if a dog or any animal was on the screen. He used to go right up to it and bark. It was so funny.

We can’t believe it will be 7yrs on 6th December that we lost poor Murphy. I remember how he still had his blue ball that he came with and nobody else was allowed to touch it even with all the toys he used to play with. He always went to sleep with one in his mouth.

My favourite pics of Ferg are with the red kong and with Dolly sitting beside him in the garden which was only taken in April this year.

The pic of us three together was taken last Xmas so it has now become even more special.

DECISIONS TO MAKE FOR THE FUTURE

We knew we had to make a decision regarding our dear little Dolly as she was devoted to Fergus and we realised she was missing him terribly.

After about a month, we checked the IRR website out to see if there was another Golden to rescue but the ones that we liked the look of were reserved or they were miles away. Then, of course, we had to have one that would get on with Dolly and, really, I wanted one a bit younger than Dolly who is six now. Other rescue places didn’t have anything for us either and, then, John happened to see an ad for black labs five miles away.

Of course, it was fatal when we went to see them and the result is we now have a just over 6month old one called Carson.

In the end we decided that if we had a Golden, we would forever be comparing him to Fergus, who was just perfect, and Murphy, who was slightly less so, and we couldn’t have coped with that.

We saw Carson’s father who was black and his mother who was brown. The people run a farm shop and cafe and we have taken him back to see them. We rest assured that, if our circumstances should suddenly change, then they would have him back which is good to know as we are getting on a bit.

Sometimes I do think we must have been mad getting a pupas he is a handful but I do forget his age and it’s only to be expected. Dolly loves him and they run like mad together in the woods every day. She has got a new lease of life now as she never really played with Fergus because he was eight when we got her.

So, now, we have the new generation and wonderful memories of our wonderful golden boys.

THE BOYS ARE FINALLY REUNITED

Here is Murphy (complete with ball as always)  with his best friend, Fergal.
