Jack Mackenzie

Gone to Rainbow Bridge

Sad News 28 August 2023

Jack’s Mum said: “Yesterday (28 August 2023) we lost our lovely Jack. We noticed his back legs were getting stiff and took him to the vets on Friday, expecting it to be arthritis. Very sadly it was a neurological disorder which is known to spread up the spine. He started pain relief and enjoyed a fantastic day on Saturday but deteriorated quickly through Sunday.

I slept downstairs with Jack, Sandie and Max on Sunday night. In between attending to Jack I fell asleep a few times once he was settled. We have CCTV in the house, and on playback each time I fell asleep Sandie and Max woke up and went to sit by and watch over Jack. Each time I woke up, they went back to bed. Teamwork at its best.”

History

THE INEVITABLE WAS BOUND TO HAPPEN

Jack is a mid gold coloured Labrador who was 4 months old when he was fostered by Jenny and Julie.

They said: “Jack is a lovely, happy boy who loves his food, loves toys and loves playing. He is very intelligent and learns quickly. His recall is coming on well and he has learned to ‘sit’. He is crate trained and has been clean in the house.

Jack bonds well with people and is good with other dogs, though he is a bundle of energy, so an older dog may find him overwhelming.

Jack would suit an active family with someone at home most of the time, as he is an affectionate dog who needs the company of people who can give him time and attention. He is a dog who loves, and deserves, to be included.

Jack hasn’t been tested with children in the home environment, but would be happier around older children, as he is still play biting and won’t be able to distinguish his toys from someone else’s!

JACK HAS FOUND HIS FOREVER HOME

“Jack came to us for fostering until he could find a home of his own. Unfortunately for Jack it became clear during his assessment period that he wasn’t 100% well and that he would need quite sustained medical treatment over time. Naturally, over the weeks of various treatments and visits to the vet Jack came to see us very much as his family, and he adopted us. So, we are delighted to have become Jack’s people. He’s such a happy chap despite his difficulties and we wouldn’t be without him”
