Lillie

Lillie is a Golden Retriever who is estimated to be between 6 and 7 years old. As normal, she has been vet checked and vaccinated against rabies.

TOO SWEET TO LET GO (JANUARY 2019)

Lillie’s sweet nature has won over her fosterer and it became obvious that Lillie had already found her perfect forever home with Emma. We couldn’t be happier for the lovely Lillie.

HISTORY

Poor Lillie, who seemed to be very sweet natured, came from a pound in Wexford. She was very, very thin and had been picked up suffering from pyometra. She was operated on by the Rescue dealing with the pound.

She wasn’t reclaimed so she went into kennels where she was christened Lillie.

After travelling to the UK, she went into foster with Emma.

PERSONALITY

Lillie was found to be a very sweet natured and loving girl. Emma said “She settled quickly into our home and routine.

The first night she needed a lot of reassurance, couldn’t relax and stress panted for a lot of the night. However, she was soon sleeping through the night and became relaxed throughout.

Lillie is an easy going and laid back girl with a very sweet and loving nature. She absolutely adores human company and loves nothing better than non stop fusses. She has a very relaxed nature. She is happy just to be at home and chilling out.

I think she would suit someone who is at home or has a job where she could go along. I think she would love being in an environment where she could meet lots of people as she is always so pleased to meet visitors when they come to our house”.

HEALTH

A lump was discovered on the left side of her neck but, because of its position, the vet decided it was best left alone as she is otherwise very well.

It now appears to be a little smaller than when she arrived.

SOCIAL LEARNING

TRAVEL: Lillie was happy and content travelling in a vehicle

HOUSETRAINING:  She is housetrained.

BASIC TRAINING: Lillie is well socialized and has had some training. She is very intelligent and knows basic commands, sit, down and no. She also comes to her name when called. She knows how to open doors and is very adept at doing so. She has managed to open doors at our home including the back door to let herself back in!

LEADWALKING: She loves to go out for walks but doesn’t pester for them and is just happy to go whenever it is time. She is very gentle and doesn’t pull on the lead at all. She walks `loose lead’ with a slip lead

RESOURCE GUARDING: Lillie shows absolutely no evidence of resource guarding with food or toys. With food she does bolt her meals very quickly and she needs to be slowed down. We have been feeding her meals in smaller portions so she can not gobble all at once and using an anti gulp bowl.

Lillie has the potential to be a counter surfer, she does like to be up on her back paws and often shows signs of trying but, fortunately, she does know the word “no”. I would be very careful of leaving out any temptations though.

SEPARATION ANXIETY: Lillie has not had to be left as we are always at home so it is hard to judge separation anxiety. However, she can very clingy and does like to be near you at all times and she loves cuddles. She can be very insistent on having her fuss. She does like to jump up for attention but she is very gentle and just rests her paws against you. It is rather endearing and its likes she wants to give you a cuddle. These are often accompanied by lots of face licks. She really is a sweetheart. When my husband leaves for work she will jump up at the front door handle for a while after he has left and sit in the hallway. I think she could find it difficult to be left alone as she become quite distressed

ADULTS:  She is very friendly and she does like to make sure she is the centre of all cuddles.

CHILDREN: Lillie has not been tested with children

DOGS: She gets on well with my dogs but I think she would be equally happy in a home without dogs because she is much more people orientated. She gets on well with other dogs but she isn’t that bothered by them so I think she would be just as happy being the only dog in the house and having all the attention on her. She doesn’t really sit with my dogs or initiate play with them although she has joined in a few games and she likes to play tug with me.

Lillie has shown no aggressive tendencies and on the whole she is relaxed and friendly. We have noted two instances of snarling however. The first occurred when we first bought her home. After meeting my boys at the park and, with all going well, we went back to our house. We let my boys into the garden and brought Lillie in on the lead. She, obviously, found it intimidating to be on a lead with two bouncy boys loose around her so she did some warning snarls but, as soon as we let her off, all was well.

We have also seen this once out walking when a loose strange dog ran up to us. I felt these were more warning snarls than actual signs of aggressive behaviour. On the whole when we meet other under control dogs out on walks,  she is calm and shows no issues around them at all.

CATS:  She has been living with our cat Lily and she has shown zero signs of aggression although she does love to chase. Some cats may take offence to this and retaliate. My cat is used to it as she is regularly chased around the house!

LILLIE’S DREAM HOME

She would be perfect for an active retired person or a couple who could spend lots of time with her and who would enjoy going out places together with her. She is happy living with gentle, well behaved dogs and would also tolerate a cat in the house.
