Luna

Luna is a stunning 2 year old, spayed Golden Retriever X Labrador who is golden in colour. This beautiful girl, was groomed in Ireland and received her inoculations for travel to the UK.

HISTORY

Luna came through ‘Dogs in Distress’ who have helped us in the past and with whom we have a great relationship. She is in good health.

PERSONALITY
Luna is confident, alert and inquisitive and friendly with people. She is boisterous and energetic but playful and happy.

She craves affection but she is quite pushy and has no manners when asking for it. She is constantly looking for someone to play with or something to do but she will settle in the evenings and leaves the other dogs alone when told.

SOCIAL LEARNING
Basic training: On arrival in foster in the UK, Luna was highly excitable and had, clearly, received very little training. She had many traits of a dog that had been kennelled for a long time. She would circle and run round in front of closed doors, jump up and push off walls etc.

She didn’t understand boundaries and had very little respect or manners. She ran everywhere and jumped all over furniture regardless of who was sitting on it.

After just 7 days, Luna settled and calmed quite a bit. She is still pushy and disrespectful but is learning boundaries and improving slowly. Although she is still highly excitable, she is much better in a routine and her basic training has come on well.

Travel: She is happy & content travelling in a vehicle
Housetraining: She is almost completely house trained.
Separation anxiety: She doesn’t seem to suffer from separation anxiety

Resource guarding: There has been no evidence of resource guarding. She loves toys but she does tend to destroy them.

Leadwalking and recall: Luna walks quite well on a lead She will sit and she has a good recall although she stops and lies down 10 feet in front of you.

She is a typical pup, full of life and she loves a good run or walk. She needs around 1.5 to 2 hours of exercise a day. If she gets that, then she is calmer and more obedient. She still tends to run most places until she has had a walk.

Children: She hasn’t met any children but she would be far too boisterous for young ones.

Cats: Luna hasn’t encountered any cats but she would probably find it fun to chase them.

Dogs: In her Irish foster home, we were told that she used to pick on their little Cocker Spaniel but she spent time in kennels with Joy and Summer where Joy, although small, taught Luna to be a better girl who no longer picks on dogs and gets on fine with them.

In her UK foster home, she is sociable with other dogs but arrived with a habit of nipping them behind the ear as she ran past. After 7 days, the nipping behind the ears stopped in the house but she was still doing it out on walks so it is being worked on.

LUNA’S DREAM HOME

Luna needs an experienced adult only home with people who will be prepared to continue her training so she can reach her full potential. She needs to have both her body and her brain well exercised. Her fosterer believes she would make someone a fabulous agility dog.

She would probably benefit from living with another large dog or dogs who can assist their humans in introducing her to the niceties of living in a proper loving home.

With dedicated reward-based training, Luna will be a wonderful, loving, fun-filled addition to someone’s family.
