Luna

Luna and Nova are a stunning pair of 2 year old Golden Retrievers sisters.

These two lovely girls who needed to find a new forever home together went into foster with Louise and family in Norfolk and, of course, immediately, they were taken into paw by Barnaby and the gang.

He made regular reports on the progress of the girls and it was all very positive.

THE FIRST DAY (29- 3 -2019)

Barnaby reporting ……. swoon and double swoon!!! The Golden girls are here! and there are two!!! Twins!! just like Bill and Ben!

Dad set out early this morning and brought them home from ‘transport’. We waited and waited and waited … and got ourselves ready … Delilah used all the water in the bird bath so we had to make do with rolling in dry mud, the sand pit and some old leaves but I think we nearly looked and smelled our best!

The Golden girls were a bit shy when they first got here. Mum makes us all stay indoors until the new dogs have had a drink and a walk and a wee and a sniff and a stretch and we get very excited and impatient when we’re waiting!!!

We can only meet them one at a time because Mum says we can be a bit overwhelming … what ever overwhelming is … I don’t think five excited Retrievers running to say “hello” is overwhelming for anyone .. but mum does. So it’s one at a time till we are all together! and then the fun starts!

And what a fun day we’ve had. We’ve been showing the girls round the house and the garden. We’ve shown them the bestest rolling bits and the bestest digging bits and even the secret scratchy bits under the trampoline!

They’ve had their dinner and had a snooze and had another snooze and lots of treats and they’re stopping being shy already!

They love meatballs and sausages and Mum says they’re bright as buttons and know lots of words already! I’ll have to tell them to slow down a bit and pretend they need to learn things or the meatballs and sausages will stop far too quickly!

Mum says they can go for a walk tomorrow … a proper walk! A proper walk to the beach!!!

The girls get very excited when they see their leads so we’re all hoping they know all about walks and all about walking their humans on a lead so we can go out together very soon … and that will certainly mean meatballs! and sausages! and maybe even cheese! Yum! I’m so so so very lucky!!! Yippee!!! So very lucky to be a foster brother … I think I must be one of the luckiest boys in the whole wide world.

FOSTERER’S ASSESSMENT

They are typical young Golden Retrievers, playful, affectionate and very very loving. The girls are closely bonded but not to the detriment of their interactions with other dogs or people.

They’ll happily separate if there are two laps to be slept on but will just as happily share the only one available.

Their foster mum says “The girls have settled in remarkably quickly and have learnt our routines straight away. They know where the treats are kept, know that my picking up my whistle means a walk but they are also happy to be left in the house when I walk the other dogs.

Although both girls pull a bit on a harness and short lead they walk beautifully on a long line and never try to pull beyond its limit. They have wonderful manners when walking, they greet other dogs and humans nicely and are well socialized in busy public places.

CATS- Currently living with a dog savvy cat

DOGS-Both dogs are fabulous with other dogs, both mine and those we meet outside. They’re perfectly socialized on walks and sit and wait patiently if I stop to chat to someone. They can sit happily and watch dogs, people, cars pass by without reaction.

BASIC TRAINING -The girls recall is good when treats are on offer although they still get engrossed in exploring or playing and seem not to hear their names being called.! They are not destructive and they are incredibly gentle with toys.

HEALTH-Both are happy healthy girls with black noses and glossy coats.

SETTLING IN (1-4- 2019)

Foster brother Barnaby reporting ……. My mouth won’t stop smiling.

Our golden girls are gorgeously gorgeous! So gorgeously gorgeous that it doesn’t feel like I’m a foster brother. Even miserable Millie thinks they’re special, she pretends she doesn’t but we all know the truth!

Mum took the Golden girls on their first beach walk on Friday. I hoped I could go as well but

Mum said “no”. She said she needed to see if they could walk nicely on their leads and meet other dogs nicely and listen when she talked to them. She said I’d be a distraction!

But Mum took us to the beach the next day for a treat! We discovered our gorgeous Golden girls were fine being home alone! No chewed things and no barking or crying! They can’t do anything wrong … yet. Smile!

Then we played zoomies this morning … all of us … even Millie! Dad said “EEEEEK” my lawn! and Mum said “Aww, will you look how happy they are playing together” … and we ran some more so she knew she was right! And, the more Mum smiled, the more Dad put his hands on his head and kept shaking it.

Our Golden girls are having a great time and so are we and so are all the other dogs that travelled from Ireland with them.

LAST PIC with THE FOSTER GANG

We knew the girls would be leaving us so Mum took one last pic of us all together.

ON THEIR SMELLY BLANKETS

This is a pic of the girls laying on their very smelly blankets which will go with them to help them settle and, of course, will remind them of us.

LAST DAY with BARNABY

This was them on their very last day with me and the gang.

GONE TO THEIR FOREVER HOME (5-2019)

We are very happy because our lovely foster sisters, Luna and Nova, met their new Mum and Dad yesterday. We are even more happy because they loved each other so very very much as soon as they saw each other.

We are sad because our little sisters aren’t our very special foster dogs any more and we’re sad because we already miss them soooooo much but we’re really happy that they’ve now got their very own forever family and their very own forever home.
