Marvin Rothwell-Billings

Gone to Rainbow Bridge

18 June 2020

Marvin has gone to Rainbow Bridge.

His mum Mandy said, “We said goodbye to Marvin today, he developed lymphoma cancer as secondary and the vet’s unsure whether the primary was maybe his liver, without subjecting him to further biopsies etc.

We adopted our boy in July 7 years ago, he was only 9.5 years old, but spent the last 5 years in Spain with us, going swimming and living life to the full.

He will be greatly missed xxx”

Below is a selection of photos. Some are with his first sister Tia and some with his new sister Nana, whom we adopted from SAT in Dolores, Costa Blanca in January 2019.

History

Age: Two and a half

Sex: Male, neutered

Marvin lived most of his early life chained up in a garden, and was rescued a few months ago by a loving family who have done a great job fostering him and giving him love, attention and basic training. He is now being surrendered to IRR to find his perfect forever home.

Personality
This beautiful boy has had a tough start to life but is thoroughly enjoying being part of family life. He loves cuddles and will ask to be petted – however he also likes to have some “alone” time. He is house-trained, and settles well in the house when left alone for short periods of time.

Marvin loves running after balls and playing “catch me if you can”! His other love is to get his balls from the bottom of the puddle, as you can see on the colour of his face in the picture. He is a little clumsy and does not watch where he is going when running after a ball.

His training is going well, he’s a very fast learner; he already reacts well to sit and call backs, he doesn’t quite want to lie down on command yet, but that is improving as well. He is not food-possessive, showing no signs of any growling or aggression.

He walks well on a lead.

Marvin is still learning not to “mouth” people and is improving on a daily basis. He is good with other dogs, but LOVES to chase cats.

Driving in a car is also no issue for him, but he needs to be restrained with a harness or in the boot, as otherwise he quite likes to be on the front seat!

Marvin’s dream home
Marvin needs a forever home where he will have lots of love and affection to make up for lost time.

We are certain that he will be a fantastic dog and well worth the investment of time and patience spent in developing his character and personality, and he’s responding very well to positive reinforcement training. His neck remains a sensitive area from his chain collar, so it’s very important that his training regime is always positive and gentle.

We would recommend him for a home with older children, and definitely not with cats.

Marvin has gone to his Forever Home

NEWS FROM MARVIN’S FOREVER HOME 6 July 2013

His new mum tells us Marvin has had a run around the garden with her other Golden, Tia, and has made friends with her. He has been drinking a lot but, of course, it is very hot.

Mandy says “I have attached pictures of him in the garden this afternoon. He has not ventured into the sand pit or the paddling pool yet but it is still early days.”

They plan to leave his name as Marvin although he may just get called Vin or Vinny in time.
