Megan Granger

Gone to Rainbow Bridge

RUN FREE SWEET GIRL (4-4-2019)

Julie said “Today I had to make the hardest decision and say goodbye to my beautiful Megan. She was truly beautiful inside and out and will be missed by so many people!!

Run free sweet girl, I will miss you so much xx

The day started with me having to do a paper round. As I was wet through, I stayed out and walked Honey. Megs had not been so good in the night. She was very restless in the night, there were spots of blood in her wee and her tummy was making a terrible noise in the morning.I knew I had to take her to the vets to get her checked and I was not sure what the outcome would be.

Sadly, at 12.30pm, Megan went to join Ricky at Rainbow Bridge It was very quick and very peaceful. Her blood pressure was very low and her body was beginning to shut down. The vet took one look at her and said the time had come to let her go.

SO MUCH SADNESS AS A RESULT OF SO MUCH LOVE

The writing had been on the wall but Megan was such a fighter and refused to give in. Once before, her back legs completely went so I made an appointment at the vets and thought it was time! Then, she calmly walked into the shop at 9.30am!! She was very wobbly and could only manage about 20 steps before she fell but she still seemed happy enough. I knew it wouldn’t be long, but she always was a stubborn old girl!!

She is 15 and a half but it doesn’t make the decision any easier!! I thought to myself “I could do with some of that special sloe gin that Keren had talked about!!” and I hoped Bentley would rally round too. Sadly, Bentley lost his battle.

RETURNING TO NORMAL

Afterwards, Julie took Honey to see Megan but she didn’t want to go in the room, and preferred to quietly snooze in her basket.

Megan had definitely been in charge so Julie was interested to see how Honey changed. In fact, stepping up to the job, she took up residence in the shop and ate her meal!

Honey enjoyed going to agility which helped to take Julie’s mind off Megan for a couple of hours. She was being thoroughly spoilt with different walks and accompanying her Mum to meals which she enjoyed as, in her whole life, she had never ever stayed on her own.

After just a couple of days, Honey seemed to return to normal ….. picky with her food and bone idle!!!!!!!!

22.5.2019 NEEDING TO BE BRAVE!!!!

Honey was up early today as the scary cleaner is here on a Wednesday and Honey is scared of the vacuum cleaner!!! She has to spend the morning with me in the shop on Wednesdays. She is even more put out today as I have builders in and they are even more scary than the cleaner!! Such a brave girl …….. NOT!!!!!!!! Honey really misses Megan as back up!!

MEGAN’S DIARY

YOUNG MEGAN

Megan was 18mths old when Julie got her. She was free to a good home as her eyes hadn’t passed the KC standards which made her a failed breeding bitch.

MEGAN WITH RICKY

It wasn’t long before Julie applied to IRR for a dog and that was when the lovable rogue that was Ricky moved in. Megan soon had the measure of him and always regarded herself as the Lady whereas he was, definitely, the Tramp! He was also the epitomy of an Irish rover!

Despite Megan’s obvious superiority to Ricky, they went everywhere together, they shared many exciting holidays over the years and had great fun at the IRR Reunions.

Megan was even, secretly, quite proud when her brother won Best in Show at the 2009 Reunion especially coming after his previous success in the South West Heat of the 2007 RSPCA Rescue Dog of the Year when he was awarded 2nd place.

When Ricky passed over Rainbow Bridge, despite their often unusual relationship, Megan missed her naughty brother and was sad without him.

A NEW BABY AUGUST 2015

Julie was actively looking for a new friend for Megan and had settled on the gorgeous Romanian Crossbreed, Oreo, who had a bit of a look of Ricky about him but, in contrast, despite having lived on the streets, he was a very well behaved boy. Sadly, his adoption was knocked on the head when he was found to have a very aggressive cancer which meant he needed to stay in long term foster and had become no longer available.

Back to the drawing board, Julie was pointed in the direction of a surprise litter of puppies and that was when baby Honey made an appearance in Megan’s life and would change it forever.

Honey looked to Megan as a Mum straight away and Megan, despite herself, became rather fond of the little critter who loved to cuddle up to her. Megan thought she was a funny little thing but she was quite respectful and polite if a bit odd because she was so fussy over food.

HONEY & MEGAN ON HOLS OCT 2016

Lots of wonderful holidays followed and many involved beaches and water.

The once tiny pup grew and grew and soon became as big as Megan. As she grew bigger and bigger, Honey still respected Megan as her mentor and always as her boss.

DECEMBER 2016

Christmas was always a special time and little Honey continued to grow and grow until she was almost as big as Megan but she never grew too big for a sisterly cuddle.

PERRANPORTH 2017

The next year, more holidays followed and, again, the beach was always a firm favourite.

On a couple of occasions, Honey got to meet up with her bigger brother, Shamrock, and his older brother, Barney, For Honey, Shamrock is always her favourite playmate.

AT THE CHRISTMAS PARTY 2017

The vacations were interspersed with regular doggy meetings at Gizzie’s field where Honey often got to be reunited with her Mum, Lily, and most of her siblings on a regular basis.

Megan loved to look on but was far too posh to mix with all those rescues. Honey, on the other paw was always in the thick of it. This is a very rare picture of Megan in a group as she lay by her Mum’s feet during a human feeding frenzy.

MARCH 2018 HOLIDAYS

The first holiday of 2018 was a rare one as it was in the snow but Megan loved it.

A PRIZE WINNER AT 15yrs

Having been a multiple rosette winner over the years, amazing Megan had to show her Mum, even at age 15yrs, she could still win prizes so at Evesham Dog Show, she was awarded 1st prize in the Best Oldie Class. Her rosette was almost as big as her!

ENJOYING GIZZIE’S FIELD 2.9.2018

The girls continued to enjoy their regular outing to Gizzie’s field.

MEGAN’S LAST CHRISTMAS

The once little sister had grown and grown and had now overtaken her older sister.

A DETERMINED MEGAN 19.3.2019

Now a very elderly lady, Megan was determined not to give in until she was good and ready. Poor Julie was on a roller coaster for months thinking every week was going to have to be Megan’s last. It was a very tough time but we all knew Megan would make it crystal clear when she had picked her time to make her final journey.

Here she was having her walk as best she could. Head down and off we go. This was just days before she took her final walk on 4th April and went to be reunited with Ricky.

SLEEP WELL, MEGAN

People were lovely to a grieving Julie and, despite lots of tears, she was well supported by customers and friends and she was showered with beautiful cards and flowers.

On Tuesday 23rd April, Megan finally came home and she is now snuggled next to Ricky in Julie’s wardrobe. “Until we all meet again, you are both carried forever in my heart”.
