Missy Crofton

Gone to Rainbow Bridge

Sad News, 6 May 2023

Today (6 May 2023) beloved Missy gained her wings to meet all her IRR family and friends over the bridge.

Luckily for Missy, she passed in the loving arms of her mum at the only loving home she’d ever known with her IRR friends at her side.

History

Missy’s mum, Kathryn said, “Missy came into my life quite by accident. She was in Offaly pound with a JRT who used to bully her. The JRT went to Dogs Trust. Missy had issues of food aggression she was apprehensive of other dogs and with people at times, but soon came to realise that everyone was treated the same, whether a blow in or not. She was a real individual, who would do what she wanted. She had been an outside dog and found it strange to be put in a big soft bed., wrapped up and kissed at night like all my dogs are. When outside, she would ask to come in waiting at the door to see if it was ok, as the others breezed in and out. She couldn’t go up the stairs but had mastered this before she went to heaven.

She was loved, deeply loved. She was in season for the last week and we managed to make her comfortable. The only thing I could think of which is rather funny, was a pair of my big knickers with a hold in the back for her tail and sanitary pads to soak up the blood. I would wash her morning and evening. She was comfortable and I would give her pain killers in the morning and before bedtime, just in case she needed them. She knew she was loved and sometimes would sleep upstairs in my bedroom with the rest of the loonies.

She loved her plain buns in the morning and running around the garden. She loved being petted and would try to get into the best spot in order to achieve her aim. You could call her till doomsday and wouldn’t come it till it suited her. Then she did ‘the come and see if you can get me game’. –

Lilibet was especially close to her. I came home after grocery shopping yesterday and I saw her struggling, and panting. I put her in the back of the car to go to the vet. I was apprehensive as the car is on the blink. However, God smiled on me and got me to the vets and back home.

All the dogs surrounded her. When I put her in the car Lily came bounding out. From the time I came home to the time she died it was about 10 minutes and to be honest, I think she waited for me out of gratitude. She had come home but wouldn’t go to heaven till she could say goodbye to her mum.

Lily was by her side as she passed as I spoke to her and told her how great she was and not to be afraid. When she passed, Lily jumped in to be with her, almost by saying that if she was with her , she could bring her back from the other side. I had to get Lily out of the car and she was upset and wouldn’t pay any attention to me for the rest of the day. She still won’t , but that will take time.

I suppose death is easy, it’s the living that defeats us. We will meet again, I know, and we will play the game of ‘come find me’ and we will be together again when the Good Lord calls.”
