Misty

Misty’s History

Misty is a seven year old pure bred Golden Retriever. She had been with various families with other animals and this didn’t suit her personality, as she seems to be more interested in human company. She had been found wandering, abandoned, before being surrendered to IRR.

Fosterer’s first report: Ireland – End of March 2013

Sandie says “Misty has only been here about 30 minutes but seems to be enjoying the peace and quiet (and warmth) and, so far, she’s proven to be a very loving affectionate girl.

She’s vaccinated and will be spayed. A shower and grooming session
will make her feel a lot better.”

Fosterer’s second report: Ireland – Early April 2013

Sandie says “This beautiful girl is growing in confidence every day. She’s extremely affectionate, house trained and she shows no food aggression at all with me, taking her food very gently. She won’t eat her food out of my hand but she has passed every other assessment test I have put her through with flying colours.

Misty is brilliant on the lead which she holds in her mouth while walking.

She is frightened by any new experiences, for instance, although she will quite happily go out of the side gate and walk up the road, I can’t walk her up the hall and take her out of the front door. On another occasion, I got her into the car to take her for a different walk but she wouldn’t walk when we got there and just wanted to get back into the car.

Misty will make a fantastic dog for the right owner in a pet-free home where she can enjoy being the total centre of someone’s world”

April 2013

Misty has now gone to her forever home in Ireland with Adele and her mum Joan.

Update from Misty’s forever home – April 2013

Misty is a fantastic dog, she is totally focussed on me and I on her. We are like two peas in a pod! She is a complete sweetheart with anyone who meets her. She had a wagging tail from the time she came into the house. She had been spayed and was, no doubt, a little uncertain of her circumstances, but it didn’t take long before she realized ‘this was the last leg of her journey’.

I paint and take landscape and animal photographs so she joins me and is quite happy to sit and watch me paint. The first day, we went to a Bistro for lunch and this little boy came running up as she was sitting down, they both put their heads together each looking into the other’s eyes and then she put her paws on his shoulders – a real Disney moment! She was the star of the show to everyone who passed us by. People sit in cafes and watch the world go by – we were having lunch and people passing by were Misty watching!

She is very comfortable around children but is a dog that needs human company rather than animal company. Misty is incredibly bright, much more so than I had initially realized, perhaps she is the type of dog that does not run with the crowd and likes to stand out on her own? This may be the reason why she didn’t seem to settle in a pack environment.

After one of our long strolls, she lies in her soft bed, under the large Georgian window where the sun streams in, and snoozes. We have a beach 15 minutes walk away and the park is just 20 minutes in the other direction so we are spoiled for choice. Misty has much to keep her occupied and lots of new sights and smells to discover. We have found each other through the wonderful IRR and have started a relationship of mutual understanding and unconditional love that can only go from strength to strength.
