Murph

Murph and Benson are 9 year old pure bred Golden Retrievers. The brothers are both light cream in colour. They are both a little underweight. They are neutered and have seen a vet for their inoculations to obtain their EU passports.

HISTORY

Benson and Murph came to IRR through Offaly Pound where the Dog Warden rehomes dogs. She knew of IRR’s reputation through Martina in Babydog Rescue with whom we also have a fantastic relationship.

It is very sad when two dogs of this age have to be rehomed but the owners had no choice due to severe ill health problems. They held onto them as long as they could as they have loved them from pups and were truly heartbroken at having to let their ‘family’ go. Their only stipulation was that their boys would continue to be loved to bits, treated only with kindness and that they would, most importantly, stay together.

PERSONALITY

Apparently, they cannot be separated even for a moment as they get upset. They seek solace in each other’s company and, even though the change in their lives is dramatic, they seem to be coping very well. Kathryn could not believe they were 9 years old, bobbing, darting and running around like two mad loonies.

Benson is the smaller of the two and is submissive to his brother Murph who is much bigger. There is little to tell between them. Benson is as lively as a pup running around and bouncing from one place to the other. He is inquisitive and loves meeting new friends. Murph is bigger and more courageous, he seems less inquisitive but both brothers long to please.

They are beautifully natured, affectionate and gentle but have that ‘nose for trouble’ to get themselves into mischief even at their age.

SOCIAL LEARNING

Benson doesn’t seem phased by either dogs or cats and is quite happy to meet new doggy pals.

They know the basic commands and can’t wait to show you how wonderfully they can sit or lie down. They have good recall but it must be said that Benson suffers from the wonderful Golden problem of ‘selective hearing’. They seem to be fine on the lead though a little work may be needed. They have no bad habits.

So far, we have no knowledge of how they travel or interact with children.

THEIR DREAM HOME

Their dream home would simply be with people who love them and somewhere that they could see their days out together, maybe in the country or by the seaside, where they can run and play together and continue enjoying life to the full.

Kathryn, our Irish Co-ordinator, could not believe their age and she did say they will be an asset to any family situation. She also said the family that is blessed to be given the opportunity to have these fantastic Goldens as part of their family, will clearly feel that they have won the lottery. They are true examples of the breed that IRR are so passionate about and why IRR work so incredibly hard to protect and save these glorious creatures.
