Murphy Nunn

Originally called Harvey, Murphy is an adorable GR/Collie X who was about 1 year – 18 months old when he was rescued in 2009. He was found by a lady who tried everything to find his owner but couldn’t. She said he is good in the house and in the car and is good with children. He has now been neutered and is looking rather fetching in his buster collar.

He was fostered by Julie in West Sussex so she would be able to assess how he is with other dogs and with cats.

Julie says “Harvey is not being any trouble. He slept well in his crate without any sound. He walks well on the lead and seems to be housetrained (apart from a bit of marking). He is eating and drinking OK and just wants to be loved.”

UPDATE ON HARVEY

Julie says ” Harvey arrived on the overnight transport from Ireland six days ago and was very pleased to see me. He jumped into the car and sat looking out the windows during the trip home. We only travelled for about 20 minutes but he was very relaxed and showed no signs of car sickness.

On arrival at my house, he was very calm when he greeted my two although he did mark a couple of times. Apart from that he has been clean in the house. He has met the cats and is not bothered by them in the house. Outside is a different story, he would like to chase them or the squirrels he has seen on his walks.

He is very friendly both to humans – big and small and to other dogs. He does tend to jump up but he is very light and gentle. He craves attention and will jump up to get it. Having said that he gets very worried if you use a stern voice so will sit down if you tell him “no”. He loves nothing more than a cuddle and will happily sit and watch television with you. Roddy my Golden Retriever loves to play and Harvey is more than happy to oblige. They have been play fighting and playing chase around the house without any problems.

I crate him when I go out or at night and he is fine with this. He does bark a bit when he is put in his crate and my two go out for a walk without him but it does not last long. He is good on the lead and does not really pull – he just likes to walk ahead of you. I can walk Roddy, Layla (my lab) and Harvey all together on leads without any problems which I cannot usually do with the foster dogs.

He seems very settled here and does not rush out the front door if given the opportunity. Having said that he’s done it once to show me he can. Just like he jumped the baby gate with no effort!

Harvey is a very handsome dog and everyone who has met him has commented how lovely he is. All he needs now is his own forever home with or without a friend for company.”

Harvey has now gone to his forever home in Surrey.

UPDATE ON HARVEY now MURPHY 5.12.09

Mike says “Murphy is settling in very well and hasn’t been a problem at all. He’s not bothered by the cat and sleeps through the night. He doesn’t seem to have the biggest appetite and only ate one bag of food yesterday and I’ve just taken him for his morning walk so will feed him again in an hour or so and see how he gets on. He still likes his frankfurter treat and pig’s ear before bedtime!”

UPDATE 27/12/2009

Mike writes: “All is going wonderfully with Murphy, he’s a true gentleman. He’s settled in really well and already is a very popular member of the family. He loves his walks over the park and is great off the lead. He loves to run around and play with other dogs but doesn’t really get games like fetch and is a bit frightened of squeaky toys! “

“He’s a proper softie and loves attention and a cuddle but is always gentle. He very rarely barks and doesn’t make a fuss if he’s left on his own. My little nephew was scared of dogs after a bad experience with a boisterous German Shepherd but Murph has already cured that fear by being a big softie! I really think he’s the perfect dog and anyone that meets him loves him instantly so we feel very lucky to have been first in the queue to get him.”
