GOODBYE TO A VERY SPECIAL BOY (4.7.2020)

A heartbroken Denise told us, “We lost our darling Nono today. He was such a gentle boy. He was fourteen years young.

He wasn’t ill in himself but he had arthritis and nerve damage in his back. Walking had been struggling for some time so he had been on Loxicom and Yu Move for about a year.

I eventually bought a hip hammock and walked him on slow walks but, eventually, about 2 months ago, he stopped being able to go walking or swimming. The vet said just let him wander around indoors as he wasn’t in pain, with him not being able to feel the nerves.

He continued to eat well and wag for his Dentistick but this week he was falling over each time he went out. He also could not go up the stairs to bed with us and that was sad.

We sat up with him last night. He had been bowel incontinent for a few weeks, which we handled, but, last night, he also lost urine control and could not get out.

His quality of life had altered completely and, this morning, he looked worn out so I made the decision to have him put to sleep. My vet was lovely, came to the house and I cuddled my boy while he went to sleep. He was 14yrs but still looked so young.

Nono was such a gorgeous gentle boy. He had outlived Sammy, Cassie, and Eddie.

Darling Twinkie would not leave his side, even when we coaxed her with food, instead, she chose to lay beside him whilst he went to sleep. Bless her heart”.

Fly high with the angels, Nono

THIS WAS NONO’S FINAL SPONSOR DOG LETTER

Nono was a valued IRR Sponsor Dog He wrote a “goodbye” letter to his Sponsors:-

Hi Everyone

My hooman Mum says she is so sorry she has not written over the last couple of years but she has had problems with her Mum passing, my hooman brother having problems and, also, she works full time. Despite all that, she thinks of you often.

As for Twinks and me, we are doing OK. Mummy was going to let Twinks have some babies, but Twink, wisely, said “No thank you” I think that was best because she is a very silly dog and, I think, she would not be very sensible just like me with babies.

Twinks still has lots of energy and wants me to play often but I am struggling a bit and have been to Dr John, our vet man, several times because of my bad hips. He gives me medicine for every day and Mum gives me some pain tablets as well, she also puts a heat pad on my back and that is really nice.

Everyone says I look very handsome and young but I am 13 years old and have to have help getting upstairs to bed now also, I am afraid, I have little accidents but Mum and Dad don’t get angry so that’s OK.

We do go out for little walks and, when Twinks goes chasing rabbits and runs about, I potter around and then sit and wait for them. But I like sitting with Dad in the garden best.

I wish I could come to the Somerset gatherings but I can’t as, I am afraid, I find the car very uncomfortable.

Well, I hope all my hooman and my furry friends have a good Christmas. All of my love from Nono and naughty Twinks. XX

EARLY HISTORY

Nono is a beautiful Golden Retriever who was nearly 5yrs old in 2011 when he was surrendered to IRR as his family were emigrating.

FOSTER REPORT

He was fostered by Jayne in Kidderminster who said. “When Nono arrived on 24/4/11 he was very quiet and subdued. He was good in the car and lay quietly in the boot on the way to go for his first walk with us and Sandy. Nono walks well on the lead and was very sociable with other dogs we encountered on the walk. We met some children and he was gentle and was not worried by them even when a few came along on bikes and skate. Nono is good with our cats and just ignores them.

Nono is a very affectionate boy, he is very good on the lead. His recall in the garden is brilliant he responds better to my husband than me, when my husband calls him he runs straight to him. When i call Nono he stops and thinks about it before he will come to me. He enjoys being brushed and will sit there happily until you tell him he can go. Nono is not aggressive around food, he takes his time eating. Sometimes he will walk away from his food and go back to it later. We had to separate Nono from the children while they were eating as he would not lie down away from them. Once the children had finished eating Nono was fine and happy to be around them. He has never attempted to get on the furniture and is happy to sleep on the dog bed or on the mat.

Nono plays well with my dog and enjoys rolling on his back on the lawn. He will play with a ball but after fetching it about three times boredom sets in and he will look at you as if to say you threw it you get it. Nono is a lovely dog who will make someone a wonderful pet.

NONO WENT TO HIS FOREVER HOME

Nono has gone to live in Exford, Somerset with Denise and his new sister.

He is, clearly, very settled and happy there
