Oakley

(Was Bertie)

Age: 5 months

Sex: Male, neutered

History

Oakley (was Bertie) was surrendered to IRR because he was too boisterously playful for a young child in his family.

Personality:
Oakley (was Bertie) is a sweet boy, and when he came to us he was very small for his age. He is crate trained and has had some basic training already – he’s very responsive to positive training. He’s happy to sit, give his paw, retrieve a ball and drop it at your feet for you to throw again! And again …

He walks well on a lead and harness and seems to have good recall in a secure area.

He loves to greet his fosterer in the morning by running around, wriggling and stuffing as many toys as possible into his mouth.

He sometimes displays territorial behaviour related to food and this is something his new owner will need to work on diligently to follow on from the good work done by his fosterer in this area.

Oakley’s (was Bertie’s) Dream Home:
Oakley (was Bertie) is looking for a home which is committed to giving him the continued training that he needs. He will probably be best homed with another dog who can show him the ropes and help him understand good canine behaviour. He is a puppy with lots of energy, and it’s important that his new home understands that and is ready to invest plenty of time and energy in his development.

Behaviour with small animals:
Oakley (was Bertie) is excellent, in fact somewhat submissive with other dogs and excellent with cats.

Fostered in: Lancashire

Oakley (was Bertie) has gone to his Forever

Update from Oakley’s Forever Home – November 2013

We picked Oakley up from Paula. It was lovely to meet her and hear all about Oakley.

We left Paula’s and had an extremely long journey home! It took us 8 hours in total! Oakley however, was an absolute star. He slept nearly all the way and when he did wake we stopped to let him have a toilet break and stretch his legs.

When we eventually got home, my 3 cats disappeared upstairs. My lovely old dog, Tarot Tots wondered what was going on at first. Now having been here a couple of days the cats are wary of him but happy to wander about. Tarot has put Oakley in his place a few times and Oakley seems happy to comply.

Oakley is very playful and enjoying all the walks, playtime and attention he’s getting. When he’s playing he’s quite mouthy but it’s not in a nasty way at all.

UPDATE 12 DECEMBER 2013

Oakley’s new mum, Liz, tells us he has settled in extremely well and is, already, a much loved member of their family. She says he is a gorgeous boy who enjoys snuggling up for big cuddles and lots of love.

He and Tarot Tots, the resident dog, are getting along “just dandy” and play together nicely with no signs of aggression and a mutual respect for one another. Liz is happy to report there have been no problems with the cats or horses either.

Oakley is quite happy being left and is not at all phased by the many comings and goings due to their various shift patterns. He is enjoying all the different walks (as can be seen in the pics) and yet is happy to come home and crash on the dog couch. The family put the Christmas tree up at the weekend and Oakley hasn’t taken a blind bit of notice of it. He is learning new things all the time and, now, Liz has even taught him to remove items from the washing machine. She thinks that putting them in and turning the machine on, whilst doing the hoovering and dusting, would be fantastic, but that may be just a bit too ambitious:)

Liz and Steve say “Thank you to IRR for allowing us to welcome this
gorgeous Goldie into our family.”
