Ozzie Brogden

OZZIE ON ARRIVAL

OZZIE is a very well bred, lovely natured, Golden Retriever. He is neutered and will be 6yrs on 5th July 2008. He has quite a curly light golden coat. He has always lived with Cisco but their owner is emigrating and cannot take them with her. The two boys seem to be very close to one another and are going to be fostered together with Andy and Val, after an overnight stop with Pauline (the bossy one). He is now microchipped.

He is housetrained, good with children and other dogs but has had no contact with cats.

Sadly, he was hit by a car on 16th March 2007. His left hip was dislocated but, after several attempts, it did go back into place unlike his tail, which was broken in the middle. The bottom of his tail does work but his tail needs to be shifted for him before toiletting. He needs his walks building up slowly or his left leg could give out whilst on a long walk. He would benefit greatly from hydrotherapy. He can swim but prefers to stay in his own depth so he would need to be gently introduced to it.

Ozzie can be prone to dry skin if he gets too much heat or eats dairy products.

A small lump has been discovered on the right side of his jaw
which will be treated asap by the vet.

We are very much hoping to be able to rehome the two boys together but, if we feel they could cope with being split, and it was in their best interests, then we may consider it.

ONE WEEK ON

Andy says “Cisco and Ozzie have been here for a week now. They’re lovely dogs and have been no trouble at all, a pleasure to have here in fact.

Ozzie goes to the vets tomorrow to have his tail amputated, and his little lump removed while under the anaesthetic. Once that’s done he’ll be happier, and will no longer need cleaning after he goes to the toilet, making him a lot easier to rehome.

He’s a complete cuddle monster is our Oz, and is quick to remind you if you stop, with a nudge from his nose or a tap from his paw. Cisco loves a fuss but is much more laid back, and happy to let Oz have the lions share of the fuss.

They’re both house trained, fine to be left, and travel well in the car. They’re fine with people of all sizes, and other dogs, although we haven’t had the opportunity to cat test them. Very good on the lead, to the point that my mom at approaching seventy takes them both out together quite happily.

Their coats were in a bit of a state, although Pauline removed the worst thankfully. Lots of grooming later and they look quite handsome now as their pics show.”

AFTER HIS OP

Andy has collected Ozzie from the vets and he is fine.

He has had the bulk of his tail amputated, and is now left with about 4 inches or so. While under the anaesthetic his lump was removed and it was, thankfully, nothing to worry about.

The vet said he would be sleepy as a result of the anaesthetic and may be off his food for a day or so. Unfortunately, she never told Oz, who is bouncing around like a puppy, and has just demolished his tea!!!!!!!!!

Apparently, because the skin is so tight on the tail, it can be a difficult place to heal, so fingers crossed it will be ok. He goes back in 2 days for a check-up.

FROM THEIR FOREVER MUM

Gillian says, “They are a delight soooooooooooooooo good they settled well on Saturday night, after a sniff around, and enjoyed a walk later in the evening

All was well on Sunday when we left them for an hour, to go shopping. We went for a longish walk on Sunday afternoon and left them snoozing for most of the evening The crafty pair certainly know what to do when they see you in a coat…………..they barricade the door so you cant get out without them!!!!!!!

I think we just need to adjust feeding times slightly, as I forgot to ask Andy what times they got fed, but needless to say Ozzie tries it on at all times……………….poor starving mite !!!!”

GETTING MORE AND MORE SETTLED

Gillian says, “The boys are well and getting more and more settled. They are adored by all who meet them and we have already had ‘babysitting’ offers should we need it! Statements like, ‘I will willingly look after them whenever you need…….. in fact they can stay now if you like, so no shortages on assistance (like they will get a chance!!!)

They are both proudly sport their new ID discs and are currently sporting bandanas (Ozzie’s to stop some of the slobber) but then Cisco couldn’t be left out could he?

We had them weighed the other day and Ozzie is 35 kilos, so is in need of some fat burning sessions (mainly as he finishes off Cisco’s dinner at every opportunity) and Cisco is a trim 32kilos”.

FURTHER UPDATE FROM HIS FOREVER HOME

Karen (Gill’s daughter) says, “Hugs and licks from Da Boyz! Oz is doing great, he has really settled now and has several nicknames. His personality has really come out now. He sticks to mum more than me but loves everyone. Oz has learnt new ways to gain fuss and once you start, you cannot stop ever. He has been off the lead a few times – he knows exactly where to find the muddiest and smelliest patch of water!

They have both suffered in the latest warm weather, Oz more than Cis.
They are both currently with me at my dad’s loving every moment as they get rather spoilt!!”
