Bailey

He is a very unusual looking golden retriever. Originally called Patrick he was 1-1.5 yrs old when rescued. He was subsequently neutered.

He was, at first, in foster with Sandie, in Ireland, who said, “When he arrived he was a dishevelled, nervous wreck. He cleaned up well and has settled really well.
He’s been getting on with my lot fine although he could be food aggressive around other dogs – otherwise, he is a delight. His coat is going darker and he has dark rings around his eyes like a panda, he’ll be lovely when he’s gold all over. He’s very calm, is house-trained, doesn’t like getting in the car but travels well”.

In the UK, he has been with Joan who said, “Patrick is definitely coming out of himself. Beginning to be a bit dominant towards Josh although they still get on (have heard a couple of grumbles) and also asserting himself with us in a nice sort of way. We have had him off the lead a couple of times and he’s had a good romp round with other dogs and he’s very happy to come back when called. I’ve taken him for a short walk each day on his own just round the local roads etc. He’s less confident on his own than with Josh. I took him past the infant school just as they were all coming out yesterday. He seemed a bit surprised with all the noise, pushchairs, scooters etc but was okay and one little boy kept giving him a stroke and he was fine with that.

The cats seem to be keeping indoors with this weather but we did pass one yesterday. He was very alert and interested but didn’t lunge towards it. I expect he would have chased it, given the opportunity, but he definitely isn’t desperate to chase things”.

UPDATE ON PATRICK (now BAILEY)

Joan says “Bailey has now gone to his new home and I’m sure he’ll be very happy. He didn’t want to go though, which didn’t make us feel any happier, and it’s very quiet here without him. He had started getting bossy with Josh (typical males) but I think Josh will miss their wild games in the garden”.

STOP PRESS

I spoke to Tracey on Sunday morning and Bailey had settled in and was stretched out relaxed so I went off on holiday happily. We spoke again when I got back and she is thrilled to bits with him. Bailey’s met her sister’s goldie and they had great games together and everyone who’s met him so far love him too”.

UPDATE DECEMBER 2007

Tracey says, “Here are some photos of Bailey. The two boys with him are Jack and Charlie, my youngest and middle boys. He’s settled very well and everyone loves him dearly.”

UPDATE APRIL 2008

Bailey is doing really well and has settled brilliantly. He’s put on around 15 kgs since December. We weighed him on Sunday when we took him for his manicure!

He loves the park and especially muddy ditches which he loves to lie down in. He’s very good at recall although can get a little spooked if a dog doesn’t particularly want to be sociable but always runs to me for protection! He’s very cuddly and never pulls away when we all have a hug. His favourite place is lounging on the armchair looking out of the front window watching the world go by.
