Ross Acott

A GUN-SHY BABY

Ross was a 9 month old neutered Golden Retriever puppy who was fostered in Norfolk by Jackie & Ron.

Ross had been bought as a puppy to be used as a Gundog but, unfortunately, he failed as he was found to be extremely gun shy and was, then, surrendered to us for rehoming.

He lived outside so he wasn’t housetrained.

HIS FOSTERER WAS JACKIE

Jackie said “Ross is a very gentle dog, whose only friend at the moment is our 5yr old Golden Retriever, Bridie. He is following Bridie around like a shadow, looking to her for guidance and, for this reason, we feel that it would be best for Ross to be re-homed with an older confident dog.

He is very, very timid and will need lots of time and understanding to settle into a brand new environment.

Once Ross has gained confidence, he will make someone a lovely pet.

Ross was looking for a quiet home, with at least one adult confident dog. We were looking for a child free home where somebody would be at home all day and with the patience to help Ross reach his full potential. We knew he would require kind and patient handling where he would not be pushed out of his comfort zone. Ross needs to gain trust in the human race as, at the moment, all he trusts are other dogs.

UPDATE 6/12/10

Ross has now been with us for 4 weeks and is improving slowly day by day. He will now approach us when we are sitting down, for a fuss, whereas before he wouldn’t come anywhere near us and would just hide under the bed.

Ross has now crossed a big hurdle and managed his first walk up the woods today with Bridie and me. When we arrived there, I put him on a long line so he had some freedom and he followed Bridie wherever she went. Ross was petrified of the lead but is now coming around and is walking quite nicely on it.

He is still very nervous of traffic and people outside but he hasn’t got a bad bone in his body, bless him. I’m sure he will get better as time goes on and he learns trust again.

Housetraining for Ross is progressing very well. We haven’t had any accidents for days now as he paces up and down when he wants to go out.

ROSS IS IN HIS FOREVER HOME

Ross went on holiday to Phil and Mary whilst Jackie was moving house. He liked it there so much and, as the feeling was mutual, they decided to adopt him so Ross is now enjoying life with his new brothers Taz and IRR Charlie.
