Ruby

Ruby is a dark Gold, three year old female Golden Retriever. She has a gentle personality, and like most Goldens, is very affectionate. She and has received all the vaccinations necessary for travel. She will be spayed at the appropriate time.

HISTORY

Hers is a rather sad story with noone knowing anything about her other than she was basically dumped. She was relinquished to another rescue, P and E Second Chance Pets, who asked if we would be able to help as Goldens are what we do best.

PERSONALITY
A truly sweet girl with a lovely temperament. She is nervous with strangers but is very waggy and friendly once she knows them. She seems to like human company as much as that of dogs so she would benefit from being in a home where someone is around a lot of the time. She is gaining confidence but is already a calm, happy, friendly girl, alert and inquisitive and quite playful.

HEALTH

Ruby is overweight and according to Kathryn weighed in at 40kg in Eire. She appears to be in good health and her teeth are clean but the small front ones are worn down. She has been biting her back legs but Belinda can’t find any trace of fleas or skin problems so she is monitoring it. In all probability, it is due to the stress of moving which will soon be overcome.

SOCIAL LEARNING
According to her Irish fosterer, Louise, she is ‘a water baby’ and loves the beach. She is now with another wonderful fosterer in the UK until it is time for her to go ‘home’ and she has already had her first assessment. She does appear to have had some training.

Travel: She gets into the car with no problems and travels well. Ruby doesn’t move or make a murmur and seems to be a happy and content traveller Housetraining: Ruby is house-trained. There have been no accidents in the house so far. The doors are open most of the time so she (and the others) can go in and out of the garden at will.
Separation: There is no separation anxiety. She has slept downstairs at night with Vinnie (who never goes upstairs from his own choice) and she hasn’t made a sound. She did come half way up the stairs one morning but then turned round and went down again. Leadwalking: Belinda has been using a harness but she does pull and is strong. She has not walked Ruby with a slip lead nor with a collar, for safety reasons, and because it is easier to control her with a harness. Her recall is not very reliable.
Food: Ruby isn’t food or toy possessive and has shown no signs of resource guarding
Children: Apparently, she loves children but hasn’t met any since being in the UK.
There is no reason to suspect a problem
Dogs: Ruby is very friendly with other dogs. She mixes wonderfully with other dogs and we believe she would benefit from a home with another resident dog. She gets on well with other dogs but is not pushy with them.

Ruby is a very quick learner, and watches the other dogs to see what they are doing. She now waits her turn for a treat instead of pushing forward. Ruby has progressed from hanging back hanging back at mealtimes, to dancing on the floor when she knows her bowl is the next one to be put down. She is definitely coming out of her shell. Belinda believes the next few days will be very interesting as she develops and her personality comes out a bit more. Already, she is really joining in with the other dogs and is becoming part of the pack. Cats etc: Unknown with cats, the only time she has barked was when she went up close to the chicken run to see what they were and one tried to peck her on the nose through the wire! She has avoided them since..

She has met other strange dogs now and all was absolutrely fine. She also got to see sheep, horses and goats and took no interest whatsoever.

RUBY’S DREAM HOME
Ruby would definitely benefit from being in a home where someone is around a lot of the time. Her slighty nervous personality would probably best suit her to an adult only home. She seems to create good vibes around her and is a truelly wonderful dog who will make someone the most perfect pet.

JULY 2016

Ruby has gone to live in her Forever Home.
