Ruby

Ruby’s history

Ruby is 4 years old. She was surrendered to IRR through no fault of her own.

Fosterer’s first report – UK: 9th April 2013

Ruby has now been with us 3 days.

Ruby is a very nervous dog both inside and outside the house.

I took her for a walk yesterday down our lane, a van came down it very slowly and she didn’t like it, she wanted to bolt. I tried again today, but in the village she panicked when the cars went past.

With Dogs she is frightened if they bark and if they come towards her she will walk away to avoid being in close proximity. I think in time she will relax and then may interact better with them.

She is a sweet little girl that follows wherever you go and loves cuddles, but loud or sudden noises frighten her.

Fosterer’s second report: 13th April 2013

Here are some Photos taken yesterday, is difficult to get Ruby to look towards the camera as she is too puzzled by the different things happening in the garden.

She has exceptionally long eyelashes that look so beautiful and lovely sparkling brown eyes.

It’s been a week now since Ruby arrived and she is now more a lot more relaxed around my dogs, but still won’t join in the play, but I am sure this will come.

She is frightened by sudden loud noise and if our dogs bark at someone arriving she will take herself into another room. Strangely the parrot’s squawking does not bother her.

Ruby still shadows the cats and will paw at them; luckily the cats are bombproof and will just paw back or walk away. If you tell Ruby No! She will leave them.

During the day Ruby needs letting out to go to the toilet at around 4 hourly intervals. She still will not ask to go out, but she is fine overnight with no mess and settles down in her bed without a peep until you get up.

Ruby loves cuddles and still follows us everywhere you go, but she seems to need time to assess people before she makes friends and trusts.

We have been going down to the Village every day and just sit for a while watching the cars go past. She is slowly getting used to them.

Ruby is on a big learning curve in all respects, she is now starting to respond to her name and is learning the words sit and down, but she seems to know “stay” and “No”.

We think whoever gives Ruby her forever home will get a loyal and loving dog in return.
