Sadie

Sadie is a beautiful, dark golden, 2 year old Golden Retriever. As is normal, she was vet checked and rabies vaccinated so she could obtain her Pet Passport.

HISTORY

She was surrendered because her owners were struggling to cope with the very different needs of Sadie and their older dog. In the UK, Sadie went into foster with Louise and, of course, foster brother Barnaby.

PERSONALITY

Louise says “She is dark golden with a beautiful flowing, silky coat and eyes that speak from her heart.

Her personality matches her looks. Sadie is typical of a dog of her age. She likes, in equal measure, to snooze by the fire and zoom round the garden with the other dogs. She seems to be very much at home.

In all the situations I’ve introduced her to, she hasn’t shown any anxiety or negative behaviour at all. She settled into family life at Christmas time without hesitation and quickly picked up on our routines, knowing when it is food or bed time.

Sadie is a delight to foster – she’s affectionate and loves cuddles and sitting on your lap. She sighs with pleasure at having her tummy tickled.

She loves to play with a ball and can retrieve again and again and again! She especially likes soft toys and tries to carry as many as possible at a time. She is affectionate and loves a cuddle and is always found snuggled up close to a dog or a human.

She is confident, alert and inquisitive, playful and happy, not too boisterous and energetic and fairly calm and laid back. She is brilliant with both children and other dogs and hasn’t put a foot wrong in the time she has been with us here. All in all Sadie is the perfect family dog”.

HEALTH

Sadie is a healthy young dog. Her coat is in lovely condition and she is an ideal weight.

SOCIAL LEARNING

TRAVEL: She is happy and content travelling in a vehicle with at least one other dog

HOUSETRAINING: With free access to the garden and hourly trips out in the evening, there have been no accidents even overnight

BASIC TRAINING: Sadie is a calm well mannered dog, well socialized and she has had some basic training She is one of those rare Retrievers that can actually retrieve a ball and would play for hours doing this given the chance.

LEADWALKING and RECALL: She is quite strong on a lead but walks ‘loose lead’ with a slip lead and with a harness. She is good on a long line and has a fantastic recall whatever the distraction.

RESOURCE GUARDING: She did show a tendency to collect toys and balls. She took them off my dogs and gathered them in a pile. We never had any aggression as my dogs share readily but I did put toys/balls away for a while.

She still loves soft toys and loves to collect as many as she can but she no longer takes them from my dogs and is much happier to share.

She doesn’t take things from the children and is happy to give up her ‘prizes’ if I take them back.

There has been no evidence of food guarding or snatching. She was very fussy with her food for the first week but now I feed her alongside my pack and she’s quite happy to eat cold pressed dog food.

SEPARATION ANXIETY: She is fantastic with all my dogs but hasn’t been alone without them due to the holidays. Sadie has shown no signs of separation anxiety when left with my dogs.

ADULTS: She is very friendly and loves people, both old and young . Sadie has a fabulous temperament. She has coped with a busy family Christmas admirably. She would make a fabulous family dog. She loves to play with humans and other dogs equally. She’s calm when needed and has fitted into our household and dog pack seamlessly.

CHILDREN: Sadie is very friendly with children. She loves their company and seeks out children. She is always gentle with them, never taking food or toys from them. Sadie chose to spend a lot of time close to a visiting autistic 4 year old. She lay by him whenever he sat or lay down. DOGS: She is very friendly and loves other dogs. She is happy playing and interacting with each of my other dogs but seems especially fond of Barnaby, my young male, and has become inseparable from him and Delilah, also young. This is both during play and at rest.

CATS: She tolerates the cat. Sadie is excited by the sight of him but Edward is too dog savvy to allow her near him. I suspect she would chase him given half a chance.

SADIE’S DREAM HOME

Sadie is a gorgeous girl who deserves nothing but the best. She fits perfectly into family life and loves to be out and about so will require a lot of exercise. She needs another dog, preferably a young, playful companion, but a cat free home may be for the best. Whoever adopts her is going to be extremely lucky.
