Sidyl Waterfield

Gone to Rainbow Bridge

Sad News 12 March 2021

Sidyl’s mum, Julia, said:

“We are heartbroken at losing our lovely Sidyl. Adopting Sidyl and Madoc together in November 2017 was a wonderful experience. Madoc was full of life and love and a sad loss when he died so soon, and Sidyl was so gentle and happy and patient, even after her partner had gone, accepting of confused Max and then scatty, almost blind, little Izzie.

We understood that the rescue of Sidyl and Madoc from Spain was partially crowdfunded. On behalf of both dogs and ourselves, who had the good fortune to care for them, we wanted to thank everyone involved in their rescue and say that even effort made and every pound given saved two dogs who only made the world a happier and better place.”

BRILLIANT NEWS THEN TRAGEDY FOR MADOC (16.5.2018)

Sidyl and Madoc are Spanish Golden Retrievers who badly needed help. They were transported to the UK and went into foster with David and Alison.

We were all delighted when, in November 2017, Sidyl and Madoc went off happily together to live in their Forever Home with Julia, Chris and their dog, Max. For someone to take on a dog with such severe health problems as those suffered by Madoc was nothing short of a miracle but they were determined to do all they could for him. For a while, all went really well and both Madoc and Sidyl found happiness with their new friend, Max and their lovely forever humans who showered them both with love.

Madoc had a few good months but his health problems were always there and, finally, his illnesses caught up with him and his distraught Mum and Dad knew that Madoc’s time was, sadly, drawing to a close. Julia told us “Madoc had a hospital assessment after which it was decided he would have the operation to remove the lump done at our local vet. The thinking was that many of his symptoms were related to the lump in his gut. However, no one was totally sure what symptoms were Leish related and what were down to the gut problem.

On 16th May, after much discussion with our vets, Chris and I decided the kindest thing was to have Madoc put to sleep today. It has been such a sad time, having to let him go when he has tried so hard to live. We are really missing our special boy

Thankfully, Sidyl seems not yet to have realised what has happened. Hopefully, she has had enough time to become completely settled with us and in our home and she has Max to help her through. It would have been much more distressing for her if she had only just arrived to live with us”.

HISTORY

SIDYL’S ASSESSMENT

Sidyl is exactly 11yrs old (her DOB is 12/01/07). When she was spayed, the vets discovered a lump which was operated on but, thankfully, the lump was benign.

David described her as a typical friendly Goldie girl, who is both attentive and endearing. Sidyl is a cheerful, happy girl who is enjoying new experiences. She is willing to learn and wants be part of the family. Sidyl loves to play retrieve and be fussed. She likes to pass between our legs for attention and is happy to investigate new areas.

She needs the company of another dog or humans and is very attached to Madoc.

Sidyl settles well when with Madoc and is happy to be left but she does love human company.

There have been no accidents in house despite Sidyl having a poorly tum on arrival.

They have not been in the car since their arrival.

Sidyl very quickly settled into the house routine. She sits and comes when called and is very well mannered and is happy to be walked on her own. Sidyl is in good general health and looks younger than 11yrs.

The only concern is a possible skin condition. Her coat is nice and thick but she has huge flakes of dandruff which could possibly be an old flea infestation. It has been like a snowstorm when she is groomed. She will be bathed when she is more settled.

She has very long claws and tartar on her teeth. She will probably need dental attention at some point.

She has a high stepping gait with her front legs.

SIDYL’S and MADOC’S DREAM HOME

Sidyl and Madoc adore each other and their greatest wish would be to stay together.

We need someone very special who will love them unconditionally and provide them with their perfect retirement home.
