Sophie

SOPHIE’S HISTORY

She was given as a pup to my five year old niece, who quickly lost interest in her. Sophie has been living on a farm, having very little interaction with the family, rarely walked or played with. She has been tied-up, as she started to wander-off and run out onto the road. Her quality of life has been very poor. I agreed to take her to live with me although I already have two female dogs, in the hope that she would settle-in but unfortunately because she has not been socialised with other dogs, she is very jealous and keeps dominating and bullying them if they look for any attention from me. They are frightened of her and cannot relax around her. I think Sophie is a nice dog, who just needs someone to give her some care and attention, but she probably needs to be the only pet in the home. She has not been neutered. Before I brought Sophie home, I put her into a dog training centre for two weeks, in an attempt to socialise her with other dogs and to learn basic commands. Although she had never been inside a house until recently, she has been sleeping inside, without soiling or causing any damage.

UPDATE DEC 2011

Sophie has settled in well.

She walks well on the lead and sits at road junctions mostly without being told, we have met other dogs whilst out walking and she has shown no signs of aggresive behaviour, more curiosity.

She is extremely good with our children, the youngest being 12 years old, she plays quite happily and is not protective of her toys.

She stays on her own at night in the conservatory and is quite happy, she is happy too see you in the morning. Sophie does like to be close by during the day and likes attention, we have only left her alone for one hour during the day and she was fine, in fact fast asleep on the settee in the conservatory.

Brilliant when we gave her a bath on Saturday but not too keen on the hair dryer. Sophie understands basic commands such as sit and lie down.

We have 2 chinchilla,s that live in a cage in the kitchen which she finds entertaining but unfortunately one of them (Eric) takes graet pleasure in winding her up and trying to get her into trouble!

In the short space of time she has been with us, Spohie has made her self at home and is enjoying all the attention.

UPDATE DEC 2011

Sophie has been with us for just over a week now, she has calmed down alot with regard to our chinchilla’s but unfortuately the rabbit is a different story, we do not let her in the same room as him. When out walking she still behaves well and we have had no trouble with the other dogs she has met. There has been no signs of aggressive behaviour towards us or the children. She can be a little too excitable at times and does seek attention. The times she has been left on her own and at night there have no problems with regard to her messing or chewing.
