Summer Orr

Gone to Rainbow Bridge

ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL GOLDEN ANGEL (11.12. 2015)

Karen told us the dreadful news that their beautiful Summer was gone. She told us: “Summer passed away on Friday 11th December. She had a stroke in September and had been having problems since then. On Tuesday, she became ill and they opened her up to find tumours on her liver and stomach. The tests came back that she was suffering from a very aggressive cancer”.

We were all very sorry to hear about the passing of Summer and our hearts went out to Karen and family at such a devastating time. Sadly, she must have only been about 9yrs which makes her loss even more cruel and devastating for the family.

Summer had been picked up from her fosterers in Kent on 15th September 2008 and then made the long journey to her new home in Scotland where she never looked back.

Yet another beautiful Golden angel is flying high now.

Karen’s husband, Raymond, wrote: “For seven years we had our Irish lass, rescued from those emerald shores. She was a companion to Breagha and a lovable rogue. The time vanished in a heartbeat but our lives were fuller for her presence. I like to think, wherever she is, she is doing what she loved the most …. chasing mice in long grass.

Rest in peace Summer, you are loved and missed by Mum, Dad, Breagha and pussy cats, Mr Herb and Bailey xxxx

To all at IRR …. thanks for all the wonderful work you all do for the Goldies.

HISTORY

We were fairly sure that Summer was a purebred of about 10 or 11mths old when she arrived with us called Sally. She was neutered in Ireland and then
fostered in Kent with Jaspreet.

FIRST UPDATE WHEN SUMMER WAS SALLY

Jaspreet says. “Sally loves people. Everyone who has seen her wants to take her home as she is so cute and loving. She is not fully potty trained yet but she will be there soon with consistent training.

Sally seems fine with cats and even mice has shown no aggression towards anything or anyone. She gets along well with children, loves visitors and is absolutely fine with all ages and genders. She shows extra love towards my son and treats him like a younger brother.

Sally loves food and eats most things, even cucumber and tomatoes. She is going through a bit of a chewing period at the moment.

Walking Sally on her lead is work in progress but she is quite young and a manageable size so she will learn very quickly in good hands.

She is happy to stay in her crate for hours and does not make a mess in there.

FURTHER UPDATE ON SALLY

Sally is still awaiting her forever home but is now being fostered by Joann and Damien. She can now show how well she interacts with other dogs as Joann is the proud owner of Diesel (son of Kayleigh) and Poppy.

Joann says: ” Sally is an adorable girl, full of character, fun and mischief. She is so friendly and likes everyone and everything. She loves company and she doesn’t like being on her own. She mixes well with children of all ages and other dogs. My daughter grooms her everyday and they both enjoy it.

She loves being outside in the garden exploring and playing with my two dogs. She loves playing with toys, so she needs a lot to keep her occupied, she is a lively girl. She comes when she is called; she can sit on command and even give her paw…how special is that!!!

She travels well in the car and soon settles. She loves to go for a walk and knows the ‘W’ word already. She does pull on her lead but I’m sure that will stop soon. She is still very young and has so much to explore!!

Sally is housetrained. At the moment she sleeps in a dog crate overnight. I settle her about 10.30pm and I don’t hear a peep from her until 7.30am. Over the next couple of nights I am going to gradually leave the crate door open so that she can sleep in the pen, a little bit at a time. There isn’t too much chewing now, this has converted into digging in the garden.

Sally is a super dog and it will be sad to see her go. She will make the perfect pet for a lively family who ideally have previous experiences of puppies.

THIRD UPDATE ON SALLY

Sally is a loveable livewire!!! She loves a fuss, especially rubbing her tummy……which is growing bigger as is she. She’s not fussy what she eats. Her delicacy at the moment is slugs and snails (not nice when your getting them out of her mouth)!!!!!!!!!! Still digging and loving her daily walks and plays. Today is Diesels birthday so we have a special doggy cake which I’m sure Sally will love. I hope she is rehomed soon, because seeing her grow up is so rewarding… the puppy stage is so much fun to watch and be a part of.

Sally is now completely out of the crate overnight and sleeps on most of Diesel’s bed – Diesel has a corner of it if he’s lucky!

FIRST REPORT FROM HER FOREVER HOME

Karen says, “Summer is wonderful and has settled in really well, we feel like she has been here for ages rather than just two days. She was great on the long car journey here. Breagha, our other goldie has got even more of a smile on her face since getting her new sister, she is enjoying the company again. Three of the four cats are already getting their faces washed by Summer.

Summer has been in the fields off the lead running after Breagha and today we went to the forest with them and she was in the water.

All in all Summer is a lovely girl who is now a part of our family. She was very lucky to be taken in by the Irish Retriever Rescue and we were so lucky to get her. Thanks also for all the help given by Joann and Lorraine.”

UPDATE JAN 09

Karen said. “Just wanted to let you know how Summer is doing, since having had her for three months now. She is doing really well and she has settled down a bit, still as mad as ever but in a good way. She has gained weight and is looking beautiful.

Summer is still chewing but it is calming down. Worktop surfing is a lot better and jumping up is once in a blue moon, which is really good.

I have done six weeks of dog training and she was fab. She understands sit, down, stand and her recall and stay is coming on a treat. She loves running and running.

Summer has been good with my neighbour’s horses and the sheep/cows. She just loves life and Breagha. She is good with the cats, although when she has her mad hour or so they just keep out her way. She’s had a go at Breagha a few times but I think she was just trying to push the limits with her. Breagha is enjoying Summer’s company but still likes to have a bit of time on her own.

We all love her to bits and hope her new life with us will keep getting better for her.”

UPDATE MARCH 09

Karen said,“Just a wee update on Summer to let you all know how she is doing.

Summer has been here six months now how time goes by. She is doing really well and I can really see a difference in the last month or so. She is still her cheeky mad self and we all love her to bits. She loves life to the full as you should do.

Breagha and her just love each other, the wee problems we had have settled down (fingers crossed). She is great with all the pussy cats. We have a few fun shows coming up so we all will be going.

Raymond’s mum and dad love looking after her the three days I work, they just can’t believe that someone didn’t want Summer. She is so loving and so much fun to be with. I walk her then drop her off at their home, so she is out and about all day with them. She knows when I finish work and when I am about to pick her up. Then off home and out for more walks running about in the fields or forests with Breagha.

We love having her and feel it’s the best thing we have done for Breagha and ourselves, since losing our other goldie nearly three years ago.

Will keep in touch and thank you IRR for letting us have her and for all the wonderful work you all do.”

Love
Karen, Breagha, Summer and pussy cats.
P.S. and Hubby (Raymond)
