Tilly & Baxter

Tilly & Baxter (was MAx)

Tilly and Baxter’s (was Max) history

Baxter (was Max) and Tilly are brother and sister aged 3. They were surrendered to IRR owing to a change in family circumstances

Fosterer’s first report – UK: March 10th 2013

Tilly & Baxter (was Max) have settled in well and despite an initial 1st night accident they appear to be house trained.

They are both a little overweight and we have started them on a diet. Combined with regular walks we expect them to lose weight fairly quickly.

Tilly is the more confident of the two dogs but they do not like to be apart.

They enjoy their walks but do tend to pull on the lead. We do need to work on this and will be taking them out at least twice a day to see how they improve.

The dogs seemed to enjoy having the freedom to come straight from the garden into the house and as you will see from the photos appear to be very relaxed in their new surroundings.

We heard Tilly bark for the first time when our neighbour’s small dog barked. Baxter (was Max) just ran up the garden with Tilly. They met some other dogs on their walk and have been friendly with everyone they have come into contact with, but have yet to meet small children or a cat!

They appear to have been well looked after and their fur and general health appear to be good.

Fosterer’s second report – March 2013

Tilly and Baxter (was Max) are continuing to adjust to their new surroundings and are enjoying the comfort
of living indoors.

They are both very affectionate dogs and want to be fussed by everyone, including all strangers that they meet on their walks. We are informed that they are cat friendly but have not been able to test this. They do like to chase the birds and Tilly will growl and bark when she sees our neighbours in the garden (normally wagging her tail at the same time).

Both dogs prefer to sleep in the hallway on the carpet but do not wish to venture upstairs. They settle down quickly and sleep throughout the night. Slippers, ties and items of clothing will be chewed if left within their reach. They also like to shred any post or newspapers that come through the door.

They travel well in the car and Tilly will now jump in and out with encouragement. Baxter (was Max) is still unsure about climbing in and has to be assisted.

Both dogs are struggling with walking on a lead. Baxter (was Max) appears to be nervous and vocal around other dogs he meets while out walking. They are both startled by sudden noises and they will pull towards another dog or person.

The dogs have been weighed and are on a diet. Tilly is the more overweight of the two and needs to lose around 7 kilos. Max is always hungry and will counter surf for food and eat any of Tilly’s dinner that she may leave.

Tilly and Baxter (was Max) play together and share their toys. They play tug of war with a rope and will race around the garden.

Tilly remains the confident one and the leader of the two dogs and Baxter (was Max) likes to know where she is at all times. He does not like being separated from her.
Both dogs are a pleasure to be with.

MAY 2013

Tilly and Baxter (was Max) have gone to their Forever Home on the Isle of Man.

Update from Tilly and Baxter’s forever Home – July 2013

Hazel says: I am sorry we have not updated sooner about Tilly and Baxter (the slight change of name was necessary as our grandson is called Mac and he did not appreciate walking to heel etc!) We are a million times more delighted with them than we were on the day that Susan and Dean kindly brought them to us. We have spent many happy hours walking in the fields with them, trying to avoid the sheep, but not the ‘stuff’ the sheep leave .Good to either eat or roll in!We take them to the beach which is only a few minutes away, and they are gradually learning to walk on the lead. They are an absolute pleasure to be with and are great with the grandchildren, which of course was our main concern. I am sure if they could speak they would tell you that they are very grateful to the IRR, the fosterers and of course the previous owners who have let them live here in the Isle of Man…happily ever after. So a big THANK YOU to you all. Or in Manx Gura mie ayd. Baxter has one small complaint ..that the Hydro pool is a bit undersized!
