THEY DIDN’T HAVE FAR TO LOOK (OCTOBER 2017)

Toby and Elvis have been together all their lives and have a strong bond with each other so IRR would not split them and they needed to be placed together.

To nobody’s surprise, Toby and Elvis didn’t have far to look for their dream home. They waved their magic wands and sprinkled fairy dust over Marion so she, very quickly, fell under their spell and joined our ever swelling ranks of extremely happy “failed” fosterers.

THEIR HISTORY

IRR was contacted to see if we could help when circumstances changed and their unselfish owner made the decision that was best for the dogs even though it was extremely difficult for the family as could be seen.

The owner had three children whose father washed both of them before they went to be neutered and they were told that they would be properly groomed before going to the UK.

After receiving a veterinary health check and the necessary inoculations to travel to the UK, they were kept in owner foster for a month before being fostered for a week by Cathleen, one of our most experienced IRR fosterers who was able to ascertain their personalities in a new environment. On arrival in the UK, they were fostered by Marion.

THEIR DREAM HOME

Above all else, Toby and Elvis need to be rehomed together. Apart from that, they would fit in almost anywhere as long as it was with a loving family who would have plenty of time to spend with them.

They are an absolute dream pair who are fantastic ambassadors for their breed and someone is going to be extremely lucky to have the privilege of adopting them.

TOBY ASSESSMENT

Toby is a 10 year old neutered, cream coloured Golden Retriever.

PERSONALITY

Toby is a total gentleman with a very gentle personality and, like most Goldens, he is very affectionate. He loves nothing better than chilling in the garden with his friend and mate, Elvis. Marion can’t fault him. She describes him as a wonderful dog and says “this boy makes you glad to be alive and feeling like you want to spend all your time with him. He is placid, loving and affectionate and all who meet him, love him. This boy has the most wonderful temperament and he just loves to spread the love wherever he goes.

He is sweet natured but he also has a sense of fun and mischief. He is absolutely adorable and makes every day feel like Christmas.

He is a gentle, fun loving, friendly wee soul who is immaculately behaved around everyone from a 7mths old child to fully grown adults.

HEALTH

Although he is ten, he is in excellent health. Marion agreed saying “Toby shows no signs of any ill health, is very sprightly for his age and is in great shape for 10yrs”.

SOCIAL LEARNING

TRAVEL: He seemed quite content in the car. He travels very well and will wait to be told to get out.

HOUSETRAINING: He is house-trained

LEADWALKING and RECALL: IRR was told that he was good on the lead and has a relatively good recall. He was rather excited when a lead was produced. This was probably due to the fact that he hadn’t been exercised for some time as the owner had so much to do.

RESOURCE GUARDING: He is not food possessive

SEPARATION ANXIETY: Toby shows no signs of separation anxiety

CHILDREN: He is great with children.

DOGS: We were told Toby mixes well and is good with other dogs and this proved to be true even on an initial visit to the vet.

Marion says he is always instigating games with other dogs. He very much lives in the moment and is an absolute pleasure to be around.
