Molly Burdett

Gone to Rainbow Bridge

A FIRST CHRISTMAS WITHOUT MOLLY

Christmas was very different without Molly even though she had always sulked at sight of a camera. The pups are learning new tricks, some similar to Kerry and Molly, which always brings a smile to my face remembering my girls.

Love is, now, 17 months, Angel is 7 months and Music is 6 months. They are working on their Good Citizen awards and we still do Goldie meet ups every month.

Music had sneaked in a month after Angel so, for 2 months, we had 4 dogs which was brilliant. Molly even posed with them on her last day.

Molly was one in a million and a huge character. I miss her and Kerry so much but, in a way, I am glad they are together and playing again. Molly missed Kerry so much and I’m amazed we got to share our lives for another 14 good months with the help of Love.

MOLLY IS REUNITED WITH KERRY (27.9.2019)

Kaz tells us “Sadly, this last week it was obvious that Molly’s legs were failing a lot and she wasn’t the girl we knew and loved. My son spent the whole of Friday with Molly spoiling her rotten, I had the afternoon with her then we took her to gain her wings so she could fly swiftly to Rainbow Bridge to play with Kerry again.

Sweet dreams forever more my Molly Moo, we will love both you and Kerry till the end of time xx

I am so heart broken at losing my precious golden girls” Molly was my failed IRR foster girl in 2006. She and Kerry had many adventures together until Kerry went to the Bridge in July 2018. Molly grieved badly and, at 15 years old, I didn’t want to lose her too.

We tried hard but getting a special pup (Love) was what helped her. We moved home in July this year by which time we had added 2 more girls to our family. We hoped Molly wouldn’t tell them off if they got too much but we needn’t have worried as she was great with them. Thank you to everyone for your kind words, love and support. Luke and I have read every message and have shed lots of tears remembering Molly what a character she was. We were so lucky to have her over 13 of her 16 years and it is just a shame we missed those early years during which people badly let her down.

This was a last pic with her sisters and young friend Willow.

On Sunday, 29th September, a heart broken Kaz told Pauline “Molly wasn’t herself this last week, Angel kept kissing her face and the old Molly would have told her off but she never did. She just turned away. Then on Thursday afternoon, Angel knocked Molly and she couldn’t get up. I had to help her to her feet several times this week. Luke had day off on Friday so he spent it spoiling Molly, she even had a bacon and cheese roll. I had the afternoon with her then we took her to vets so she could get her wings to run and greet Kerry and my Dad. I’m sure he would have had toast waiting for her.

Molly was one in a million. She taught me so much about Goldens and about myself. She will leave a huge hole in our lives. The house is so quiet without her but we are glad she had a peaceful journey to Rainbow Bridge where she would be ready for her next big adventure.  Pauline said “It is extremely sad news but Molly had a truelly wonderful life so, for that, you and Luke have to be very grateful and rather proud of youselves. Fly with the angels Molly”

FEELING POORLY? (14/5/2019) NOT OUR MOLLY!!!!

Kaz said “I made a vets appointment for Molly as she wasn’t doing well, her cough kept us both up all night. I went to take a photo of her before she went to vet and she got up and ran away so I cancelled the appointment!!!!!!!!! We did take her to vets later and they gave her some tablets which have helped.

Molly so often surprises us. One reason I knew she wasn’t ready to go yet was when she showed Love up with the activity toy, Molly knew how to get the treats very quickly.  Her legs aren’t responding as they used to but she jumps on the armchair to sleep and on the sofa for cuddles. She is a very strong willed lady. I am so glad we have had the pleasure of sharing our lives with her”.

Pauline told her “All you can do is enjoy every single day that you are blessed to share with her and, then, when Molly tells you she is tired and has had enough, you will have to respect her wishes and do the right thing by her which, of course, I know you will”.

MOLLY WITH LOVE (1.7. 2019)

Molly enjoys going walkies with Love. I can’t believe it’s a year tomorrow since Kerry went to the Bridge and, back then, I feared I’d lose Molly too. She is full of surprises

NEW BABY, NEW HOUSE (2.9.2019)

Kaz said “I never dreamt I’d be able to take these pics with Molly. She is still very much in charge and she didn’t want to leave our old house but I gave her the flower essence remedies and she, now, enjoys the new house”.

The baby is Angel, now 14 weeks old. We thought a new house with a new companion for Love would be good so she is never on her own. Molly had been so good with Love. She did catch her once but Love was really pushing the boundaries. They have, now, both been told off by Granny but they are learning to respect her. Love has now been spayed and is recovering well

CONGRATULATIONS BIRTHDAY GIRL (8.4.2019)

Many congratulations to Molly who is sweet 16yrs!!!!!!!!.

Kaz says “I am so happy and proud of our sweet sixteen year old Molly, it was a birthday I didn’t think she would see as she was grieving from losing Kerry last July. She even went off her food, Burns pouches, that she usually loved she just walked away from. We would give her anything to make her eat, chicken, ham, sausages. My friend suggested chicken soup and that became her favourite. Thankfully, she is now eating dog food again, Lily’s kitchen tinned food, especially the cottage pie one.

Molly has always shared my bedroom with Kerry and I kept Love downstairs when we first got her so Molly still had our time and space. One day, Love came in our room and Molly gave a huge grumble so Love went in the passage. A week later, Love came in the room again and

Molly was fine and didn’t grumble. This was a breakthrough as Molly wouldn’t share our room with any other dog but Kerry.

She still gives me proud moments. Molly is now finding our stairs too much and has chosen to sleep downstairs although she did run up the stairs for Luke’s pizza last night. We are now looking for a house or bungalow to make life easier for Molly.

Here are a few pics of Molly. Unfortunately, she doesn’t enjoy the camera as much as she used to these days.

VERY SAD NEWS FOR MOLLY, HER BEST FRIEND, KERRY, HAD GONE (14/07/2018)

She was my soul mate and I miss her golden antics and laughing every day. I still find it hard to talk about it. There are no words to make it any better or a day that passes that you don’t have to go through the pain and wish things were different.

Molly didn’t cope and grieved a lot. Where she was normally always near me, she would take herself into the kitchen. It upset me to see her suffer.I tried a calming collar, lots of love and treats and asked for advice. I took her to our vets who were lovely and they gave her tablets.

Remembering the happy times helps us to have some good days Hopefully, Kerry is playing happily at the Bridge with all her other friends who have already crossed.

A NEW BEGINNING (20.11.2018)

Kaz said “I started looking around and found a good breeder who had a litter born the day after Kerry went to the Bridge. I had to have plans in place as Molly has never been good with other dogs.

It was 8 weeks after Kerry’s passing that Love came into our lives. Molly came back to me for cuddles when the puppy nipped too much. I’m sure it has helped Molly not to miss Kerry quite as much and I’m hoping her spirit is in Love.

Kerry will never be replaced but there is always room to love more animals especially Goldies. Here is a pic from this morning”.

NEW YEAR UPDATE (27 January 2018)

Kaz says “Molly had a good Christmas when I stopped taking photos of her. She doesn’t love the camera as much as Kerry.

My friend had to have Ciara, one of her Irish Setters put to sleep 2 weeks ago. She was one of Molly’s best friends. The one she had a photo close to all those years ago.

Clodagh is a bit withdrawn she is 8 years old and been with Ciara all the time. She does have 2 Irish wolfhounds that are 6 months old and 2 young boys to have cuddles with. Plus she has us and will probably still have some holidays with us.

This year is flying by. Kerry is 15yrs in March. Both girls have some arthritis in their back legs but that’s only to be expected. Kerry has hearing problems too, again age related, she can hear clapping or if you shout “oi” at her. All being well, Molly will be celebrating her 15th birthday in April”.

UPDATE 29.3.2019

Here is a pic of Molly and Love at Christmas and a recent one from February. Having a pup has really helped Molly. She had us worried a few times and I thought we were going to lose her soon after Kerry but she is still going strong and will be celebrating next month.

Love is nearly as tall as Molly here and almost 6 months old.

They get on well and Love understands Molly won’t play with her so she meets other friends for that. Last week we met up with 33 other golden retrievers and their owners. It would of been too much for Molly so she looked after the house. Will try and get some birthday pics of Molly.

AUGUST UPDATE (29 August 2017)

Kaz tells us, “Molly had a great birthday and celebrated with Kerry. She recently had her two Irish Setter friends to stay and is very comfortable with them although she still has bark offs with the dog next door so she hasn’t ever completely mellowed.

Molly loved staying with my Dad and really looked after him. When he was unconscious on the floor she wanted to lay with him but the ambulance people wouldn’t let her. Both girls were brilliant that day.

No one can believe how old the girls are and even our vet says they wish all Goldies were  as fit at half their age. It’s a shame most people let their dogs get overweight and unfit.

Yesterday, they were both in the woods and in water, which they loved, although being out an hour is enough for them both now. Arthritis is setting in a bit but not enough to stop them getting upstairs or jumping on sofa.

We moved closer to Dad but are hoping, in a couple of years, to move to the country and then, hopefully, I will be able to foster again”.

CONGRATULATIONS MOLLY (8.4.2017)

Molly was rescued by IRR in 2006. Kaz was going to foster her but Molly had other ideas and very soon she had her and Luke wrapped round her paw.

Kaz tells us “Eleven years on, Molly is still a happy girl who will be celebrating her 14th birthday on the 8th April 2017. She is rather camera shy, perhaps she doesn’t like her whiter face or still thinks I’ll send the embarrassing pics of her.

Molly still isn’t keen on other dogs but loves her sister Kerry and her Irish Setter friends, Ciara and Clodagh, that spend their holidays with us. Molly still knows how to put on the cute face so she won’t get in trouble for digging up the garden or having a bark off with the dog next door, which she always wins!!!!

I hope you will all join me in wishing Molly a very Happy 11th Birthday with many more to follow”.

EARLY HISTORY

Poor Molly was about 3yrs old when she was rescued from a cruel farmer who had her chained to a pole 24/7. She had no social skills and was terrified of the world but she always put on a brave face which was probably what had seen her through the ordeals she suffered.

REPORT ONE YEAR ON (2007)

One year ago today Molly bounced into the house as a foster dog. She took no time at all to make herself known to the settee and Kerry’s toys

Her first day.

She made friends with Kerry and very soon they loved to share a joke together.

Molly had to learn lots in her year with us and still has more to do but she is the most lovable people dog and has lost a lot of her fears and discovered she is really a lap dog. Molly is on my lap reading this to make sure I don’t put any embarrassing photos of her in.

A MUCH LOVED SPONSOR DOG

Molly became one of the first and a much loved Sponsor Dog. She was happy to represent the other breeding bitches like herself who had been abused and chained up outside.

Kaz would like to thank all the people who kindly sponsored her.
