RUBY’S HISTORY

Ruby’s Mum, Bella, was surrendered in Ireland due to a change in family circumstances. She is a Retriever mix and looks as though she has been crossed with a cocker spaniel, and she is quite small, about 14 inches.

It seems Bella was in heat while she was in the dog pound and nature ran its course. IRR had no idea when Bella came to the UK she was already pregnant and it wasn’t until her adoptive family took her to the vet for a check up a few weeks after her adoption, it was discovered she was due to give birth within 2 weeks. On 5th August 2012 Bella gave birth to 7 beautiful puppies.

Fosterer’s 1st report – UK: 29th October 2012

Ruby was very shy and timid when we first brought her home and quite often hid behind the sofa dragging the doggie bed over her head. However it hasn’t taken her long to come out of her shell. She is a very loving lady who loves to have a cuddle and her belly rubbed. Obviously for a pup she has loads of energy and is always on the go running around the garden and playing with candy our
Shihtzhu. Although candy was nervous of her at first they have become best of buddies and love playing tug of war.

Ruby has had her 2nd injection on Friday 26/10/12 together with worming; I’m looking forward to taking her out for walks. I have started to get her used to a harness around the house which she has no issues with.

We are slowly getting there with toilet training.

She knows when it is bedtime and is quite happy to settle down on her bed snuggled up in mums
dressing gown in the bedroom.

Ruby is a very healthy eater; she loves her food and I’m sure she would eat all day if you let her, so I do feed the dogs separately. That said, I can take food off her, be it dog treats or dinner, and she is happy for me to do that.

To sum up Ruby is a beautiful fun loving pup who will make an ideal family dog.

Fosterer’s 2nd report: 11th February 2013

Ruby is a beautiful girl; a typical pup bounding around and playful. She loves her rope toys and cuddly bears and enjoys playing fetch.

She is house trained but on rare occasions still has accidents. She has a super appetite and
will eat anything.

Ruby loves her walks, though she does pull on a collar and flat lead, but she is improving with a harness.

She is very loving, gentle and she loves fuss and belly rubs. With the proper training she will make a superb family pet. She is an intelligent girl who likes to be active. If she gets bored she tends to dig in the garden. To help stimulate her and occupy her I put treats in a Kong and let her work out how to get them out.

Ruby is great with all size dogs and loves to play with them. She likes meeting new people and gets very excited; so excited that she will jump up on visitors but I am working with her to discourage this.

I have not been able to cat test Ruby.

What I would say is because of her bouncy nature she would be better placed in a home with either no children or older children.

Fosterer’s 3rd report – 28th February 2013

Ruby is very good on walks and walks very calmly by my side with the use of a harness. She understands and responds to ‘wait ‘ before crossing the road and sits and waits patiently until being told to ‘come’. She loves meeting people and other dogs and will calmly wait to be invited to play.

Ruby responds to commands such as ‘sit’, lie down’ andon your bed’. She will also give you her paw when asked, but this still requires a little work.

Ruby is a beautiful puppy. She is very bright and loves Attention and a rub on her tummy.

I have left ruby alone for short periods of time from 10 minutes to 3 hours. Ruby is uncomfortable being locked inside i.e. one room (kitchen); this could be due to her change in environment/fosterers. I haven’t left her in the garden alone so I haven’t had any issues with digging.

Ruby is excellent with children, both my 6 year old boy and also with children we meet on our walks.

She is a very gentle puppy dog.

Fosterer’s third report – March 2013

Ruby has now been with us for 4 weeks and is an absolute dream.

She now has lots of friends at the park and bounds around for a good 30 minutes with them tiring herself out.

My little boy has taken to giving her lots of cuddles which she patiently reciprocates. The two of them together is an adorable sight.

Ruby has now started to ask to go outside when she needs the toilet, she does occasionally go when on walks, but still prefers the privacy of the garden. I am still rewarding her and making a fuss when she goes outside.

She still has a big appetite, but I don’t overfeed her.

Her training has come on in leaps and bounds, she is like a sponge and is eager to learn and be rewarded.

A truly wonderful little girl.
