NOT PERFECT

I know I’m not pretty and may not be cute
But still I can’t figure why I got the boot
My legs are too long and my ears are too big
They say I am mental for dancing a jig

Spinning and spinning, my heads in a twirl
They need someone special to give me a whirl.
Barking at shadows that dance on the wall
Who’s gonna want pooh and pee in their hall?

People want perfect and that is not me
Never been on a lead just a rope by a tree
Never lived in a house, never lived with a dog
No wonder my brains in a permanent fog.

Enter a fosterer, understanding and kind.
She’s totally brillo at reading my mind.
“The others will help you to learn how to settle
Go mix with the pack whilst I stick on the kettle”

Never a panic, all things in her stride
I learn to adapt and it fills her with pride
No bad dogs here only those keen to learn
Then one day, the real home for which I still yearn

With the help of the pack, I soon became clean
We do as we’re told here but nobody’s mean.
I learnt how to share and I learnt how to play
How to sit and lay down, when to come, when to stay

How to walk on a lead and be very polite.
Barking is out now and good dogs don’t  bite
Boot camp? I don’t think!! I’ve loved every second.
But, it’s time to go now as my new Mum has beckoned

A perfect home. Is it really for me?
I’m supressing my urge to do one spin with glee
A new brother and sister, one Goldie, one Collie
And such lovely humans, both seem kindly and jolly

I’ll have acres of space and a wonderful life
With my new doggy mates and my man and his wife
My fosterer stands with a tear in her eye
She knows her job’s done as I wave her “goodbye”
