Jasmine McEveney

Gone to Rainbow Bridge

29 September 2020

Jasmine’s mum, Joanne, said:

“On 29/09/20 Jasmine passed away. We have had thirteen wonderful years with her beside us and we are relieved she is not suffering anymore. She had arthritis in all four joints so was a very brave dog.

We are heartbroken at losing her, she taught me so much and was always by my side my shadow, everyone loved her. She was always pleased to see you with her squinting eyes an amazing dog who I miss so much.”

History

Another beautiful baby girl from Kaleigh’s surprise litter, JASMINE is a very sweet yellow puppy, with very slightly thicker coat than Lily. She is also a little darker than Lily. She likes to play and enjoys her food. She also enjoys being cuddled.

Jasmine is named after a flower, like her sisters Lily, Poppy, Orchid and little Rose, whilst her brothers were all named after trees. She is one of the surprise puppies born to the very beautiful and very young golden retriever, Kayleigh.

Jasmine’s Diary

First Week

We picked Jasmine up when she was seven weeks and one day old she is such a sweetie she loves her cuddles and is into everything at the moment chewing a lot and picking things up from the garden.

Jasmine wants to play with my other dog Oscar and my two cats but they are not so keen at the moment they are all just getting used to each other so we are taking one step at a time. I think Jasmine thinks charlie our cat is her brother because he is the same colour black and white.

Jasmine had her first injection on Monday and the vet checked her over and she fine. She is eating well and toilet training is going really well she is a very clever puppy and we are very pleased with her.

She goes in her crate at bedtime and has excepted that this is bedtime and not playtime and that’s it until morning, her weight at eight weeks was 11lbs 4ozs.

Jasmine is very special and we all love her a lot, and cannot wait until we can go on nice long walks. 🙂

12th October 2007

We have had a lovely day sunshine so plenty to do in the garden Jasmine loves the grass she has been sniffing it and biting it and bit some flowers head offs and found the only dandelion and bit that off, she also likes to hide behind a plant in the garden and then brings bits out she seems to eat anything so I am always removing bits from her mouth. She has eaten all her dinners and loves playing with the girls they love cuddling up with her. Charlie the cat who is black and white keeps running away when Jasmines chases him. Oscar has been fine but Jasmine always wants to play and of course, he walks away I think when they go for walks he will be fine but I think he is better left alone to sleep. Jasmine was restless in the car she had a sleep but moved about a lot. Jasmines loves playing with Kaleigh’s toy she likes the rattle it makes.

13th October 2007

We had a better night last night she seems to be settling in, I put Oscar in his bed next to the crate and that helped. She is so good at toilet training she even goes to the door if she wants to go out, she is a quick learner and already likes to be with us all the time and loves playing in the garden with Megan.

18th November 2007

Jasmine has just attended her second training class and was a lot more confident this week. She even barked there and her bark is getting loud now! She did the sit and wait and take treat – Jasmine kept jumping up and snatching so she will be practising this at home.

Jasmine has some new toys which you put treats in and she plays for ages with them.

She’s been in a cows’ field and decided to eat the cow muck!!

24th November 2007

Thank you very much for the lovely shamrock tag with our contact details it is lightweight which is great, at the training class she said we must have a tag on I have the pets bureau tag at the moment as well.

She was very good at training class and did her sit stand and down she has quickly learnt these we also went through a gate and we did recall which we have to practice on, she is not biting as much now and is gentle when taking the treat.

12th December 2007

We had a puppy party at the vets last night she really enjoyed it there was a golden retriever called Cash and he was 4 and half months but very big and I think he liked Jasmine, he did’nt like the other dogs playing with her it was really funny to watch them playing it reminded me when all the pups were playing, Jasmine kept cowering down and then rolling onto her back there was an Alsatian, red setter, 2 spaniels and a little jack russell poor jack russell they all wanted to chase her.

Oscar has been poorly last weekend we had to take him to the vets he has kennel cough they say but he is still coughing I hope Jasmine doesn’t get it, she had her 4 month check yesterday and the nurse said she was fine just needed to watch her weight, she likes her food they said labradors do. I shall weigh her tonight they did it at the vets but I will double check it and let you know.

16th December 2007

Oscar is getting a bit better he is still coughing the vets only gave me 3 days supply of antibiotics that is why his cough got worse so I telephoned them and explained this and they said he needs another 5 days supply. Jasmine is fine so hopefully she will not get it, I shall try and get some Bryonia cough medicine.

The Christmas tree is still standing Jasmine is very good, she won best trick at the training class and won a present.

She chewed through her lead when I was at the vets waiting to go in little monkey she is.

20th December 2007

Thank you for the lovely email card, well Oscar is feeling a lot better now still coughing a bit though, Jasmine has been a bit naughty she chewed the antlers that light up we have been trying to get a good photo with them on but she always knocks them off. So the other day I found them chewed on the floor.

Also she has been digging again and nearly digged her way through to next doors garden, We went on a walk across the field she was off her lead with Oscar she came back when I called and I also used the whistle and she was very good.

I shall try and get some more antlers and see if we can get a photo.

Merry Christmas to you all and all the pups and owners and a happy new year.

29th December 2007

Jasmine has been having fun. We have been across the fields most days and off the lead she loves running around we meet some other dogs a Labrador/spaniel and she wanted to play all the time a right show off rolling onto her back and showing her tummy she is always cowering down with her head bowed down she is a little madam. Also she was not so keen on coming back to me when I called her so now as soon as we see another dog we have to put her on the lead.

She is still on 4 meals a day and 50 grams a time I am thinking of increasing the amount and cutting down to 3 meals.

Jasmine also jumps up a lot when people come around so we will have to work on this, also Oscar and Jasmine have been quite playful he seems to be a lot better but still coughs and gets a sore throat from playing with Jasmine.

12th January 2008

Jasmine started with a cough this week so I took her to the vets it is not as bad as Oscar had I think we got it early she had to have an injection to ease the throat and was given some antibiotics, so we missed training this week they are treating it for kennel cough the vet said she didn’t have a temperature but her glands in her throat were up, I have been given her some cough medicine Bryonia in it I gave Oscar some when he was bad the vet said it was alright to give cough medicine as well.

I have cut her meals down to 3 times a day same amount now, she is still a little monkey running off with socks and you have to watch her all the time.

We were flooded across the fields today Jasmine loved running around the field and getting wet and muddy.

28th January 2008

Sorry I haven’t been in touch for a while, we have been quite busy lately. Jasmine is a lot better now we went to training class this week and the lady was very pleased with progress. We have one more week and then we start the bronze level.

We have been across the fields a lot and Jasmine had her first swim. It was shallow water and then got deeper. She loves playing in the water, running in and out and splashing us at the same time. She was spooked by some swans that took off, so now when she sees them she barks at them.

The recall did not go too well. A man was jogging and she saw him across the field and ran over. It was quite a long way, but she went bounding over. The poor man was out of rhythm then.

She has got most of her front teeth now. I have been using a halti because she was pulling a lot and it works really well, she walks at my side.

22nd February 2008

We have been very busy lately, Jasmine has passed her puppy foundation assessment and we have the bronze test next week she is doing really well. Getting very big and strong and she now weighs 19 and 3/4 kilos she likes digging the garden and goes off the lead and is good at recall. She loves chasing the birds across the field and bounds across really fast she has so much energy.

She loves the broom in the garden is always dragging it around she gets so excited when we come home she loves her tummy rubbed and is always rolling over she loves the attention.

She also understands the leave it now so when we tell her she walks away if playing with another dog, she is so adorable and very clever we did the stay for a minute yesterday at training she was very good. Everyone we see says she is lovely. We got her a new crate she had out grown her other one.

29th February 2008

Just letting you know how we got on at training class… Jasmine did really well and we passed the Bronze assessment. I shall take some photos and send them on soon.

2nd March 2008

We have had a lovely day today – been on a nice long walk down by the river and through the woods. Jasmine is getting a bit braver and going in the water. We have a lovely sandy bit for her to paddle in, she loves fetching the sticks.

On the test for the Bronze I think I was more nervous when we had to do the stay for a minute we had two of us at a time and the dog I was with jumped up and moved towards Jasmine and she got up, so the examiner suggested that we do it one at a time so I was on my own so I got Jasmine to lie down and said stay and walk away and say stay and then after a minute go back, she was brilliant and doing the other tests the examiner asked me how old she was I think he thought she was older, she is so clever and a quick learner.

We have just given her a bath and then took the photo she was a bit smelly from the walk she was fine in the bath but the hairdryer she doesn’t like.

11th April 2008

Jasmine had the stitches out last week and is back to her old self running around and enjoying her walks, she was really well behaved considering she had to have the lamp shade on her head!

She loved the snow last week and kept barking at the flowers because they were covered in snow and liked finding her toys buried in the snow. We went sledging and she was trying to stop the sledge Megan was in she really enjoyed it.

Hope you like the photo of Jasmine with her trophy for most promising puppy under 12 months.

9th August 2008

Just to let you know, we had our Silver [Kennel Club Good Citizen] test on Thursday [7th August] and guess what… Jasmine passed. The lady said she is very well behaved.

Here is Jasmine with her silver certificate. They did not give rosettes this time but I shall send off for one.

I will send some more photos soon.

5th February 2008

Jasmine is growing into lovely adorable dog who we all love to bits. She has always got a big smile on her face when she greets you and you always have to stroke her – she is such a loving dog. We are still doing our gold good citizens hopefully in the spring we take the test.

We had a nice Christmas. My nan had a fall before Christmas, so we have been to the hospital a lot lately. We even took Jasmine to see her last week at the rehab hospital. She was very well behaved and my Nan loves the animals.
