Joseph Mackenzie

Gone to Rainbow Bridge

Sad News 16 August 2022

Joseph’s mum said, “Our beautiful Joseph died yesterday. He was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in June and put on chemo but the cancer took over anyway. We miss our bouncy loving, gentle boy, who never grew up. RIP lovely boy.”

History

(Was Archie)

Archie is a small 3 year old, affectionate golden retriever. He has been vaccinated, neutered and microchipped.

Archie came into the care of IRR in Northern Ireland. On his arrival in England he was found to have infected ears, a black staining of his skin and was hyperactive. After extensive allergen tests, plus ear and skin treatments, it was established that Archie has a number of environmental allergies and is allergic to most carbohydrates. So no doggie treats for this poor little chap!

PERSONALITY

Archie is a happy little lad who acts much younger than his age. He adores cuddles and loves to hug – even though it takes up working time this is an on-going project! He is very affectionate and friendly, demanding the attention that he seems to have missed out on. He has a deep bark worthy of a much larger dog but he rarely voices his opinion.

SOCIAL LEARNING

On arrival at his foster home Archie gave a squeal of delight at meeting the other dogs and very quickly relaxed. Once his test results were through he thrived on a diet of home cooked meat topped with Buck Wheat and his skin is now pink. He responds well to basic commands and happily plays with the other dogs. He is good with cats and children.

FEBRUARY 2016 – DREAM HOME

After all this good news, there is even better news! His fosterers have fallen in love with Archie. They have renamed him Joseph and undertaken, along with continuing IRR support, to help him back to full health.
