Gone to Rainbow Bridge

Sad news 15 April 2023

Lola’s mum wrote, “It is with great sadness that I write our beloved Lola Cola decided it was time to be with Smiley Boy Woody and passed away peacefully in her sleep today.

We are absolutely heartbroken and poor Molly Moo is completely lost.

RIP our beautiful girl we love you more than words can say.”

History

POOR LOLA NEEDED OUR HELP

Lola came to us as a beautiful 11 month old GR puppy. She was surrendered to IRR by her owner in the UK who was distraught to find she has a genetic problem which they could not afford to have fixed.

Lola was born with an ectopic ureter. This means that one of her kidneys does not fill her bladder, but instead she constantly “leaks”.

NOVEMBER 2014 NEWS

Lola has now undergone laser surgery. The plan was for her to remain in foster for the time being while the success of the surgery was monitored, after which she would be available for adoption.

FOSTER ASSESSMENT

Other than her medical issue, Lola is the most adorable puppy. She doesn’t realise that she has any kind of medical problem but instead focuses entirely on living in the moment and having as much fun as possible.

Lola is full of energy, loves her toys, runs around the garden like a lunatic and does her best to get any human or dog to play with her constantly. She had been used to living by herself in the garden, but in only a few short few days in foster, you can see that she has already adjusted to life as a pet who is a central part of family life.

She loves being cuddled and fussed. She’s great with other dogs and people of all ages, though very strong on her lead and will need training. Though she is small in stature (currently 21kg) she has lots of puppy energy and could accidentally knock over a small child or older person in her exuberance.

The surgery Lola requires is quite rare and complex so must be carried out by an experienced referral vet. Costs are likely to be of the order of £1,000 for the diagnostic tests plus £3,000 for the surgery. Surgical success is not guaranteed and in many cases it’s also necessary for dogs with this condition to take medication for the remainder of their lives.

IRR has taken on the responsibility of getting Lola the surgery she needs in order to lead a normal happy family life.

Having raised all the necessary money required, Lola’s fund was closed. We were so grateful for the generosity of our supporters.
